Standard minimum qualifications :

Education : A tertiary degree in public health nursing or other healthcare qualifications.

Registered Nurse.

 

Knowledge & Skills :

  • Lead, develop and implement outbreak related trainings including risk factors and solutions ;
  • Good communication verbal and written ;
  • Clinical sampling including venipuncture ;
  • Dispensing basic medications ;
  • Ability to work independently ;
  • Good knowledge of healthcare in Malawi.

 

Job purpose :

The nurse shall be appointed to support in areas of staff health and safety while providing hygiene and safety training, personal first aid training, review of medical and casualty response, assessment of health, safety and environmental issues of WFP staff and offices.

 

Key accountabilities (not all-inclusive) :

  • Receive, review and route all incoming material, indicating priority items and place the information along with any background information with the medical file for the attention of the physician ;
  • Receive clients, arrange client consultations and respond to enquiries of a medical-administrative nature ;
  • Triage and initial assessment of patients ;
  • Treating basic and mild ailments as defined in clinic manual ;
  • Support the process for medical evacuations of staff ;
  • Implement staff health training (e.g. ongoing outbreak awareness, malaria prevention measures, first aid training) ;
  • Participate in preplanning of WFPs Emergency response operations (eg. food distributions) to ensure discussions filter planning through a health lens alongside logistics and to ensure WFP staff have appropriate protection measures in place ;
  • Identify (confidentially) staff with stress or other psychological concerns and coordinate assistance as appropriate with Regional Staff Counsellor.
