Background :

IRC has been in West Africa for over ten years and has been implementing programs in Sierra Leone since1999.The programs broadly encompass community reintegration, education, gender-based violence, and health.   Since peace was declared in early 2002, IRC has focused on post conflict development and reintegration services for Sierra Leonean returning home from neighboring countries. As Sierra Leone is now a country in transition from relief and rehabilitation to development IRC has made a commitment to post conflict development programs. The IRC country program is managed from the head office in Freetown and has four field offices in Kenema, Kono, Bo and Kailahun.

 

Purpose of The Job :

Reporting to the Health Programme Manager, the Health supervisor will support the PHU In-charges, Community Surveillance Supervisors and Peer Supervisors to lead IRC activities. Specifically, the Health Officer will be responsible for supporting between 8-11 PHUs with Community Base Surveillance (CBS), Reproductive Maternal, Newborn and Child health (RMNCH) and integrated community Case management Program (ICCM) Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), in Kono districts.

 

Specific Responsibilities :

Technical Responsibilities :

  •  Plan work schedules, coordinating activities with other team members ;
  •  Plan and conduct formal and informal on-the-job training sessions with PHU In-charges, Peer supervisor and community groups ;
  •  Observe and do routine supportive supervision to ensure good iCCM and infection prevention and control practices at the assigned facilities ;
  •  Check Drugs and IPC supplies, their use at facilities, and provide information on stock level ;
  •  Discuss areas for improvement with health facility staff; identify training needs, design action plans and follow-up on these plans ;
  •  Assist community health workers and PHUs Staff in improving their record-keeping, patient management skills through on-the-job and hands-on trainings ;
  •  Be flexible and use negotiation skills in dealing with problems at field and IRC office levels ;
  •  Collect CHW monthly reports from the facility, clean data for submission ;
  •  Conduct performance review and clinical mentorship with CHWs of the facilities supervised and provide constructive feedback to facility staff ;
  •  Communicate effectively with team members, health workers, and community and district health team representatives ;
  •  Represent the Health Program and IRC at the place of work.

Supervisory/administrative Responsibilities :

  •  Supervise and support community surveillance Supervisors and CHW peer supervisors on the CBS and CHW program activities in your assigned operational PHUs ;
  •  Support PHU in-charges to supervise screeners at allocated health facilities ;
  •  Support the functionality of the respective Health Development Committees (HDCs) at your assigned PHUs.

 

Key Working Relationships :

  • External : DHMT members as well as representatives from other health NGOs, CBOs and community health structures ;
  • Internal : All departments within IRC in Bo, Kono, Kenema and Kailahun districts as well as in Freetown as appropriate.

Profil :

Qualifications   :

  • Education (Knowledge Experience) ;
  • Medical training – Community Health Officers/Assistance (CHO/CHA), and State Enrolled Community Health Nurses. (SECHN) ;
  • Licensed to ride motor bike- should have a valid riding permit ;
  • At least one years’ experience in RMNCH/iCCM programming is desirable ;
  • Should be conversant with using basic Microsoft word.
