Job Description
- Develop, implement and manage industrial hygiene programs for the Port Arthur Platform related to potential chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic hazards, including, but not limited to, hearing conservation, radiation, asbestos, chemical exposure monitoring, respiratory protection, indoor air quality, illumination and lighting. Ensure compliance with program elements
- Develop, implement and manage industrial hygiene protocol and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state and federal agencies, as well as compliance with company rules, policies, general specifications, program and procedure elements. Correct non-compliance issues and address actions from surveys, audits, incidents, after action reviews and root cause analysis findings.
- Monitor site industrial hygiene program activities and prepare reports evaluating program efficiency and effectiveness and recommendations for improvement. Document studies and surveys conducted.
- Oversee the monitoring programs ensuring the appropriate techniques and equipment are utilized to evaluate exposures. Recommend and evaluate performance of service providers and laboratories.
- Coordinate the workplace exposure assessment, WEA, program implementation to ensure protection of employees, company reputation, and the minimization of civil and criminal liabilities for TPRI in the field of Industrial Hygiene by minimizing the risks of occupational related agent exposure.
- Employ the use of the TPRI industrial hygiene/occupational health data management software in order to integrate and analyze exposure measurements with employee data and occupational exposure records. Issue notification letters to employees and contractors with results of exposure monitoring as required.
Context and environment
- This position will initially report to TPRI HSE Manager with primary responsibility for the Port Arthur Platform IHOH programs. The position will transition to report to the Port Arthur Platform HSE Manager. The position will office at Port Arthur facility,
- This position will interact with personnel at all levels of the company and with contractors and contract company personnel.
- Travel requirements to other sites of 20%
- Must be able to meet medical surveillance requirements as required by OSHA and Total.
- Facility visits may result in exposure to hazardous materials. Must be able to work in outdoor conditions and be able to access all areas of the operational facilities.
- Additional work time may be required outside normal hours in case of crisis events or exposure events at any TPRI facility.
Candidate profile
- BS or higher degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Engineering or a related technical field is required; specialized training in industrial hygiene and toxicology is required.
- Certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene, CIH is required.
- 10-15 years of relevant experience in petrochemical, refining or chemical manufacturing is highly desirable. A strong working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulations and applicable industrial hygiene standards and practices is essential. Prior experience with HSE management systems such as ISO14001 and Responsible Care is highly desirable.
- Certified Safety Professional, CSP, is highly desirable.
- This position requires excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and an ability to work independently with minimal supervision. A high degree of competency in database functionality, work processing and general IT/digital systems is required.
- Ability to enter and reach all outside areas of TPRI manufacturing or event sites in all weather conditions donning appropriate PPE.
