Internship – Human Resources Division

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill a remote internship position in the Front Office of the Human Resources Division, based in Rome, Italy.

 

Brief description of the Front Office of the Human Resources Division:

The Human Resources Division is all about people. With a team of 140 in HQ and 600 globally, this function works at the strategic and operational levels to ensure that WFP has the right people in place to deliver on its mandate. The Front Office represents the top management of the HR Division and their support staff, which includes a Communications Officer, to whom this position reports. Working in this team, you’ll have the opportunity to gain a bird’s-eye view of people management in an organization of 20,000 people.

You’ll be joining this team at an exciting time, just as a number of major initiatives related to workplace culture and people management are being launched. Your role will be to support the Communications Officer in bringing this work to life for leadership, for the HR community of practice, and for the wider workforce.

Duties and responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer you will:

  • Assist in tracking communications activities throughout the HR Division
  • Assist in the development of tools for HR communications initiatives
  • Assist in layout and formatting of presentations, reports and documents
  • Produce infographics and multimedia products as needed
  • Assist in production and follow-up of meetings and online events
  • Other duties as required

 

Qualifications and experience

  • Currently enrolled with at least two years undergraduate studies completed, or recently graduated (within the past six months) in the field of Media & Communication Studies, Marketing, Graphic Design, Data Visualization or related;
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months;
  • Excellent command of English;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), with a specific emphasis on PowerPoint, as well as graphic design software;
  • Basic video editing and multimedia production an asset.

Your English is excellent – you don’t have to be a native speaker, but you know what you want to say and how to say it clearly and concisely. This is the UN so we love polyglots – another language or two would always be welcome.

 

Supervision (Level/Methods of Supervision)

Please note that while the Front Office team is based in Rome, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the norm is for remote working, and the team is rarely together in the Rome office. Therefore you would not be expected to be present in Rome or even in the same time zone – but we do need you to be online during most of our working hours, which are 0830-1700 CET.

You’ll be working under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer, who will provide mentoring, guidance and technical supervision. We’ll start out by planning your work and identifying what skills and competencies you want to develop during your internship, and we’ll have regular reviews to see how you’re doing. You’ll also get some senior-level feedback through the Deputy Director of the HR Division, who will be your second-level supervisor.

 

Training & Learning components

 

This assignment will give you a chance to learn about the people management systems of a major UN agency, as well as to see first-hand how strategic communications principles are applied in practical terms in a busy office. You’ll hone your team-working skills and use your analytical and organizational skills as you deliver on concrete assignments on deadline.Throughout your assignment you will have access to WFP’s expansive learning platform, weLearn.

Terms and Conditions:

 

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
