Context

The African Wildlife Foundation, Cameroon Office has initiated a Young Graduate Professional Internship Programme to offer an opportunity to young graduates to gain experience in conservation and to familiarize with the non-governmental organization environment.

Position Summary

The Community Development Intern (CDI) will support the Faro National Park Team and particularly the Community Development Officer in ensuring successful implementing of activities of Community Development projects in the Faro Landscape, in Cameroon. This position will report to the Community Development Officer. The CDI will assist for differents AWF projects in the planification, execution and monitoring of activities related to income generation, community engagement in conservation and environmental education/sensitization. Income generating activities include the valorization of Non-Timber Forest Products (organization of trainings, awareness-raising, market research and regular monitoring of activities), beekeeping, agroforestry and sustainable small-scale agriculture.

Location: Faro National Park

Duration: One (01) Year

Responsibilities

Support with the planification, realization and reporting of community’s development activities (awareness raising, trainings, group structuration, etc.);
Support with nurseries development, management and monitoring;
Support with agroforestry plantation development, management and oversight;
Assist in the development of training modules and capacity building facilitation sessions;
Provide support for the structuration of producer groups (NTFP collectors and owners of agroforestry plantations) and income-generating activities development;
Provide support in the logistical preparation and organization of workshops, trainings and sensitization sessions, exchange visits, etc.;
Participate in site coordination meetings and the capitalisation of experience;

Assist in the production and dissemination of communications material to partners;
Perform other additional activities as requested by the Technical Advisor or the Landscape Director.

Requirements

A Masters in a social science field related to conservation and development (Development, Project Management, Environmental or Natural Resource Management, Agriculture and Livestock);
At least 1 year’s experience in conservation and development programs, including significant time in community animation or related work;
Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge to diverse audiences through training and other formal and non-formal methods;
Experience in organizing and collecting socio-economic data and working with communities;
Ability to work effectively in remote and challenging areas, in cross-cultural situations and multicultural environment;
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment;
Willingness and ability to travel to remote and sometimes physically challenging locations;
Self-organized and having own initiatives;
French speaking ability with English speaking skills a plus;
Knowledge of local languages is an added value;
Good writing, synthesis and organizational skills;
Computer skills (MS Office);
Adherence to AWF’s values.

· IT skills are an asset;
· Culturally aware and able to work effectively in various cultural environments;
