Since 2017, IPA’s Mexico office has studied the organizational design of police corporations to understand the institutional and structural components that make a police department effective, resilient and trusted. The Public Policy and Implementation Associate will work primarily on IPA Mexico’s community-oriented policing and information-sharing mechanism project. The project, implemented as part of USAID’s Violence Prevention and Reduction Activity, will be carried out in five municipalities. Under the supervision of the project coordinator, the person in this role is expected to take ownership of specific work streams or components of the projects, particularly those implemented in Nuevo León and Coahuila, and to collaborate closely with the team working in other implementation sites. The Associate will be responsible for following up, proposing actions, identifying and mitigating risks, and liaising with relevant counterparts. They will work independently, in close collaboration with the policy director, project coordinators, and in coordination with the administrative and research areas of the organization. The policy and implementation associate will be expected to build knowledge in thematic areas relevant to his/her line of work by researching best practices, reading academic publications, training and reviewing practices of other organizations. The Associate is expected to work closely with the police departments of municipalities in Nuevo León and Coahuila, applicants who currently live in or are willing to relocate to Monterrey or Saltillo are strongly preferred.
