Job Description

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than 981 million children and the prevention of more than 16 million future deaths.

• Responsible for the implementation of global advocacy strategies to build political will to immunisation, fostering a multi-sectoral approach and linkages with regional and country developments;
• Represents Gavi in external fora, nurturing relationships of trust with key stakeholders including research think-tanks and Alliance partners at the global level for immunisation advocacy;
• Strategically assesses and innovates on global partnerships, fostering social commitment from a variety of sectors including community representatives, youth, women’s group, the private sector and opinion leaders in favour of Gavi’s mission;
• Provides advice on political positioning to Gavi’s leadership, adapting advocacy strategies, identifying areas for engagement to advance Gavi’s mission;
• Develops, supports and maintains excellent relationships with senior Gavi Secretariat and Alliance staff;
• Lead and coordinate public policy research, overseeing the development of complex data public policy systems to support policy engagement;
• Monitor trends and policy areas in global health and related fields and provide analysis, advice and public policy positions to engage in relevant discussions and dialogues;
• Provide radar function, research and guidance on public policy matters and accountability from a health, sustainable development and cross sectoral policy perspective;
• Manages a motivated high-performing team and providing professional development opportunities and mentoring.

• Minimum of 12 years of professional international advocacy experience in global health, preferably on immunisation, child health and/or related themes;
• Significant international experience based in a low- or middle-income country is an asset;
• High-quality political analysis on public health, equity and sustainability on health, and their relations with geo-political matters, accountability and global health governance is essential;
• Solid experience on development and dissemination of high-quality public policy research, positions, messaging and briefings is a must;
• High level external representation experience with senior level exposure to global health architecture, advocacy and key players is essential.
• Significant experience on fostering public policy dialogues and implementing advocacy plans at the global level focused on the populations most left behind is required.
• Significant experience on building partnerships with global bodies relevant to health is essential.
• Solid background on collaboration and meaningful engagement with civil society, communities and the private sector on health is required.

• Excellent analytical skills on public policy;
• Experience in communications and messaging, particularly relating to the needs and experiences of developing countries;
• Coalition and consensus builder;
• Ability to inspire teams and delivering results;
• Excellent networks and relationships in global health;
• Excellent strategic insight particularly related to geopolitical, health and governance issues;
• Excellent networking and communication skills (written and verbal);
• Proven ability to deliver results;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work across cultures with the capacity to build excellent working relationships within and outside Gavi;
• Knowledge of international relations space;
• Excellent team player.

• Fluency in written and spoken English;
• French is highly desirable;
• Other UN languages an advantage.

• Masters degree in relevant discipline (public health, social sciences, international relations, etc.) is required. A PhD is an advantage.
