Organizational Setting

The International Monitoring System Division (IMS) is a technical division that applies engineering and science to develop, install, certify, maintain and sustain stations around the world as well as related analysis products. The monitoring stations are based on four different sensor technologies (seismic, hydroacoustic, infrasound and radionuclide).

This position is located in Network and Systems Support Section (NSS), International Monitoring System Division. The NSS provides all office automation, collaborations, and core infrastructure services to the rest of the Organization.

Reporting Lines

Under the supervision of the Head, UNIX LINUX Support Unit, to:

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Be responsible for requirements analysis, development and implementation of information systems, particularly in the field of collaboration tools, web applications and document management;
  2. Maintain, upgrade or enhance existing information systems; troubleshoot and provide continuing user support, to include resolving issues;
  3. Provide end user support services and training;
  4. Evaluate and deploy methods and tools for Information System development to assure a high-level of quality;
  5. Develops detailed system and other functional specifications, training materials and user manuals for major systems;
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Completed secondary education and appropriate technical training; education beyond high school in project management, computer science, information systems or a field relevant to the work highly desirable.

Work Experience and Qualifications

  • At least seven (7) years relevant working experience in developing applications in a Windows and Unix environment, using Java, PHP, Javascript, NodeJS and relational databases (ORACLE, PostgreSQL, MySQL);
  • Experience working in an Agile environment, including practices like Iterative Development, Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD; Docker containers), and Test-Driven Development is required;
  • Proficiency in version control using Git is required;
  • Working knowledge of C#, Python is desirable;
  • Demonstrated expertise in the full software development life cycle (SDLC);
  • Very good understanding of cloud technologies is required;
  • Strong customer/user orientation and ability to communicate easily and well with both technical and non-technical staff at all levels in a multicultural environment, with respect and sensitivity for diversity;
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to write technical specifications is required;
  • Excellent organizational skills and the proven ability to deliver projects within assigned deadlines;
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients, focus on impact and respond positively to constructive feedback.

Languages

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential.
  • Knowledge of other official CTBTO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is desirable.
