The LAC Infrastructure team seeks a Senior Investment Officer to act as Regional Lead for the Andean Region and the Caribbean. The team is responsible for originating and managing IFC’s investment activities (debt, equity and quasi-equity) in the following sectors: power generation, distribution and transmission, mining, transport & logistics, telecommunications, water, waste, privatized public services and other subnational/cities financing.
Duties and Accountabilities:
• Leading business development in the Andean Region and the Caribbean, in coordination with the Latin America and the Caribbean Infrastructure Sector Leads (for the delivery of the INR LAC business program).
• Serving as the focal point and liaison to the Andean Region and the Caribbean Region Country Managers. Work closely with the Industry Manager, Country Managers and Officers – joint work to include developing client, country and sector strategies
• Primary supervision of infrastructure investment staff based in Colombia, actively focused on the attraction, retention, and professional development of the team.
• Participating in market knowledge exchanges and conferences.
• Serving as the key person for client relationship management in the Andean Region and the Caribbean as needed.

• Develop a strong pipeline of good quality investment opportunities in the Andean Region and the Caribbean by anticipating market trends and employing sector/country knowledge
• Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, capital increases, equity sales, etc
• Review and analyze business opportunities, synthesize information into internal reports for decision-making purposes
• Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions
• Lead negotiation/documentation; deploy strong negotiation skills to develop solutions and overcome impasses in straightforward and complex transactions
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses, banking, and multilateral partners and understand the political context and the mindset of the government officials to further develop investment opportunities
• Lead and manage project teams, mentor, and coach junior staff in the team
• Coordinate closely with social, environmental, and technical assistance colleagues to add value to our clients’ businesses, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact
• Has a reputation for being able to connect the dots across business strategies and portfolio management lessons learned to generate innovative ideas, products, or solutions that can be replicated in other locations. Astute in anticipating where future opportunities and innovation will emerge in markets and sectors, and able to leverage expertise and reputation to connect IFC with those opportunities to grow the infrastructure business and open new markets.
• Able to have difficult conversations with clients to set reasonable expectations and with team members on their accountabilities or to address performance issues.
Selection Criteria
• MBA or equivalent qualification;
• At least 14 years of experience with a development finance institution (DFI), a commercial and investment bank or a private equity firm with tasks related to private sector infrastructure financing;
• Proven and recent deal track-record of sourcing, structuring and closing investments in infrastructure sectors, including investments in developing markets in LAC;
• Regional knowledge of countries and understanding of infrastructure challenges faced by countries within the region;
• In-depth knowledge of core infrastructure sectors; equity investment, project and corporate finance is essential;
• Strong business development and client relationship skills with a demonstrated network relevant for the team’s business;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English backed by examples and references;
• Strong credit skills backed by references;
• Willingness to travel extensively;
• Financial skills: demonstrated ability to structure a variety of complex financial instruments (debt, equity and mezzanine instruments);
• Strong track record of portfolio management of complex projects;
• Sound business judgment in identifying potential business partners;
• Ability to interact with the senior management of potential clients, financial and technical partners as well as government officials;
• Strong inter-personal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds;
• Good understanding of what internal stakeholders and approving officials look for in assessing risk, additionality and development impact as well as fit with IFC’s strategy;
• Ability to build long term engagement with clients and build credibility by demonstrating knowledge of their business/ culture, and maintain an ongoing dialogue on their business needs, operations and strategies, and opportunities for potential strategically aligned business deals;
• Ability to supervise staff in business development, processing, portfolio management and/or specialty area by providing technical guidance and delegating work to build and effectively use talents of staff, and balance workloads;
• Proven ability to mentor junior investment staff;
