Key Responsibilities

Mobilization and Blended Finance

  • Develop and identify opportunities for third-party finance mobilization, working closely with deal teams to maximize possible crowding-in of private capital.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with private capital investors such as banks, pension funds and insurance companies, as well as with other players active in the M&BF space such as impact investors, other DFI/multilateral partners, and bilateral donors.
  • Understand blended finance principles and advise deal teams on blended finance solutions, coordinating access to concessional funding sources
  • Develop an intimate knowledge of the strategic objectives and preferred financial structure of potential private investors with whom FinDev Canada could partner, and use this knowledge in addition to the knowledge of FinDev Canada’s pipeline to create partnerships.

For transactions involving concessional capital managed by the M&BF Team:

  • Independently lead/or advise on proportionate share of complex transactions / customer portfolios.
  • Assess / mitigate transaction risks
  • Determine financial eligibility of customers, borrowers and other counter parties and drafts and/or reviews documents to deliver products
  • Formulate pricing/term strategy reflective of risk and market conditions and contribute to the negotiation strategy
  • Recommend and/or approve transactions within specified parameters, policies and guidelines
  • Guide customer engagement and negotiation strategy
  • Actively manage a portfolio of customers / transactions; maintain effective relationships with clients and partners; monitors risks; recommends options for the mitigation of risks and for the optimal support to customers.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant investment experience, with a preference for candidates with DFI experience
  • Recent experience structuring/restructuring in commercial lending and equity investments and/or loan portfolio management in developing markets, preferably in the field of corporate finance or private sector development finance, in a DFI or a Multilateral Development Bank, or other similar development-focused financial institution.
  • Capital raising experience from private and public funders.
  • Experience of Debt/Equity syndication in private and public markets
  • Networking and relationship management skills
  • Knowledge of and commitment to sustainable development’s practices
  • Master’s Degree with a specialization in Business / Finance / Accounting, or equivalent.
