POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS seeks to recruit an Adult Literacy Teacher who will offer basic education to refugees in the Safe House on temporary basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Offer basic education to refugees: focusing on basic literacy in English Speaking and writing skills.
- Provide training using a curriculum jointly developed by the Centre Coordinator, the MHPSS Associate and the incumbent with modules on the approved literacy skills programs suitable for adults.
- Determine beneficiaries’ progress on use of literacy skills.
- Conduct assessment for new arrivals to determine their class of admission.
- In liaison with other departments, assist in the organization and facilitation of capacity building activities for beneficiaries e.g., workshops, trainings, or information dissemination.
- Prepare periodic and progress reports on the above-mentioned training services.
- Attend periodic staff meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a Diploma in Education;
- Background in English and Literature;
- Basic working knowledge with computer applications;
- Experience in community-based training and adult training;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Good knowledge of human rights doctrine and working experience with refugees and displaced persons will be an added advantage;
- Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP);
- Knowledge in Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
