Mary’s Meals International (MMI) is seeking expressions of interest from an expert volunteer to support Mary’s Meals in resolving global salary differential and global terms and conditions.
Global Salary Differentiation: To explore options that would enable MMI to pay locally appropriate salaries for roles of the same size. This would see us differentiating pay by location and thereby offer salaries that are appropriate to the employee’s local market whilst still being in line with MMI’s pay philosophy and grading structure.
Global Terms and Conditions: To review the different employment categories that currently exist across Mary’s Meals and to develop a framework which enables consistency in our application of terms and conditions for people working as part of one of the following groups: international, national, global and those on temporary assignment outside of their home country.
You will coordinate a discreet piece of work to understand our current policy and approach to global reward and advise on a way forward.
Key Activities:
Using previous experience of global reward, review current offering and create options to resolve issues and promote fairness.
- Costs, benefits and potential risks associated with any options presented.
- Develop a Global Remunerations Policy that will communicate:
- How we will reward MMI employees based outside of the UK receiving salaries and benefits that are appropriate to their local context.
- Agreed definitions on the contract type and terms and conditions that will be used in future.
- Develop guidelines/procedures that outline how the policies would be operationalised to include how salary and benefit decisions would be made, how data will be kept-up-to date and any costs associated with the adoption and ongoing management of a new model.
Experience/skills and attributes you will need:
- In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of global reward best practice.
- Willingness and ability to give your time to build capacity at Mary’s Meals.
- Experience of working inclusively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Encourages positivity and has a solution-focused, pragmatic, proactive and optimistic approach to work.
Essential details:
- This work can be completed remotely from anywhere in the world.
- We ask that expert volunteers are able to provide their own equipment including secure network connection to enable you to join remote meetings with colleagues in different locations.
- We anticipate that this work will take from 5 to 15 days to complete. We are happy for volunteers to work at a pace that suits them providing the assignment is completed by the end of June 2023.

As a low cost, high-impact charity, we are fortunate to benefit from the expertise of several expert volunteers who give their time and skill to help us progress specialist, strategic pieces of work. We are also interested in hearing from expert consultants who charge for their time and would consider gifting some of the time required on a pro-bono basis.
