“INSIEME SI PUÒ…” WHO WE ARE

The group association “Insieme si può…” (ISP) is an NGO based in Belluno which engages in cooperation and development projects in Italy as well as in about thirty countries of the southern hemisphere in the support for children, women and men living in extreme poverty and in emergency situations or conflicts. ISP carries out emergency and development cooperation projects that guarantee food, water, school, vocational training, human development, health, female empowerment, support a distance.

ISP has been active in Uganda since 1983, where it has two territorial offices (Kampala and Moroto) and its own expatriate and local staff who work through the local NGO “Insieme si può”. The mission focuses on improving the quality of life of the country’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups by empowering them to identify and solve challenges and problematics related to their basic needs, related to health, the social and economic sphere, education, human development, the environment.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordination and general supervision of ISP projects in Uganda

– Development of new projects, in partnership with the Desk and the Director in Italy, and with donors, local and international partners;
– Collaboration where possible and necessary in the implementation of project activities;
– Coordination, supervision and support for the implementation and monitoring of projects, in collaboration with the Project Manager on site and the Italy Desk, ensuring the implementation of projects activities and the achievement of their objectives;
– Coordination, supervision and support of the administration and reporting of projects, in collaboration with the Project Manager on site, the Italy Desk and the Administrative Management of the organization in Italy;
– Collaboration in the search for funding opportunities (national and international);
– Communication and collaboration with project partners, beneficiaries and stakeholders.

2. Human resource management and capacity-building of local and expatriate staff

– Coordinate and supervise local and expatriate staff of both Kampala and Karamoja office;
– Train and/or create training opportunities for the expatriate and local staff of the Kampala and Karamoja offices;
– Coordinate the human resources involved in the projects for a correct planning and implementation of the activities;
– Coordinate resources efficiently.

3. Coordination and representation with stakeholders

– Maintain relations and perform a representative role with local and international partners and actors, such as authorities, institutions, financiers and donors;
– Establish and maintain political and institutional relations necessary for the proper functioning of the projects and facilitate their visibility both on site and in Italy;
– Represent ISP in Uganda from institutional point of view.

4. Office supervision and management

– Verify, ensure and monitor compliance with national legislation relating to all obligations (legal provisions, labor law, taxations, registrations, etc.);
– Guarantee the correct administrative and accounting management of the Kampala and Karamoja offices and of the activities carried out in Ugandan territory.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably with specialization in international cooperation or management disciplines
Professional experience: minimum 5 years of significant experience in management and coordination positions and minimum 5 years of experience in the management and administration of international cooperation and/or humanitarian aid projects and in roles of responsibility.

– Direct knowledge of/previous experience in the country;
– Familiarity with the policies, procedures and guidelines of major international donors;
– Project cycle management skills and preparation of narrative and financial reports;
– Proven management, planning (including financial), coordination and monitoring skills;
– Proven administration and accounting skills;
– Aptitude to work in complex socio-cultural contexts with different stakeholders (e.g.: local communities and institutions);
– Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage interdisciplinary and multicultural working groups;
– Leadership, problem-solving, team-building, facilitation and coordination skills;
– Ability to work under stress and meeting objectives and deadlines;
– Willingness to travel and move around the country and for short periods in Italy;
– Proven IT skills in the management of administrative software, management applications, office applications, online communication tools;
– Proficiency in English (written and spoken) required;
– Proficiency in Italian (written and spoken) desirable.
