Recruits an Instrument Engineer , Huizhou, 44, CN

Job Role Responsibilities:
  • Provide instrument engineering expertise in support of the design, construction, commissioning, start-up and operation of the ExxonMobil Huizhou Chemical Complex.
  • The work includes engineering design, configuration, programming, maintenance, trouble-shooting, failure analysis, performance analysis in support of safe and reliable operations of instrumentation equipment within the Complex, including:
    • Field instrumentation for process measurement (e.g. Pressure, Temperature, Level, Flow and Composition) as well as specialty measurements (density, vibration, IR) and control valves, shutdown valves, and their transmission systems (e.g. 4-20mA, HART, ProfiBus),
    • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS),
    • Machinery controls and protection systems,
    • Fire and Gas detection and protection systems,
    • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) for monitoring and control of packaged systems,
    • Instrumentation cabling, wiring, junction box, power supply and distribution, UPS, and associated TCP/IP, SCADA, Modbus networking (switches, routers, Ethernet, fiber optics, etc.) and transmission systems.
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Sizing and specifying various types of instrumentation for new or existing instruments undergoing a change,
    • Supporting the maintenance team and interfacing with vendors and contractors to maintain, troubleshoot, repair/replace, configure/tune/program, test/commission/de-commission, etc.,
    • Supporting development of equipment strategies, understanding the impact of equipment sparing, redundancy, reliability, availability, maintainability, and maintenance cost in support of operations excellence and capital efficiency, and
    • Participating in activities related to safety, risk assessment and safety incident investigations related to instrumentation equipment.
  • Primary contributions will be at the individual contributor level with close interfaces within the immediate work group and interfaces with other disciplines within engineering and maintenance.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Systems or equivalent
    • Understand the principles of Five Fundamental Process Measurements (e.g., Pressure, Temperature, Level, Flow and Composition),
    • Able to size and specify various types of instrumentation (e.g., flow meters, control valves, shutdown valves) under the guidance of experienced resources,
    • Understand various fire & gas detection technologies (e.g., catalyst, open-path, IR),
    • Understand Instrumentation Society of America (ISA) and American Petroleum Association (API) Symbols and Process and Instrumentation Diagram and how to read a P&ID,
    • Understand basics of piping for instruments, tubing and Fittings, signal transmission media, communication hardware and software, and basic process and safety requirements for field devices.
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience related to petrochemical industry or design institute.
    • Demonstrated understanding of overall Instrumentation and Control (I&C) requirements and design principles and knowledge of field measurement and control devices and their proper application,
    • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques, performance analysis and the ability to solve field problems and familiarity with measurement and control devices from major vendors in the Industry,
    • Sound knowledge and experience in equipment engineering specifications and standards, including Industry standards, Country-specific regulations (CSR) and local codes,
    • Knowledge of safety system hardware, software architecture, and transmission systems and familiarity with SIS software and hardware platforms from major vendors (Schneider-Electric, Honeywell, HIMA, etc.) and the capabilities to maintain and support the site implementation,
    • Knowledge of safety in design principles, ability to contribute to HAZOPs and Risk Assessments, SIL assignment and evaluation processes and knowledge and proper use of Hazardous Area codes to be able to classify areas and specify appropriate equipment,
    • Familiarity with DCS software and hardware platforms from major vendors (Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson, etc.) or equivalent,
    • Knowledge of fire and gas detection technology, systems, and implementation,
    • Skilled in equipment strategy development including risk assessment facilitation and evaluation of task cost effectiveness, communicating equipment strategy results and obtaining approval of completed equipment strategies.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience in any of the following areas is an advantage:
    • Familiarity with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) software or equivalent,
    • Skills necessary to manage in-house and contract engineering scope for large capital project,
    • Skills necessary to design, implement, troubleshoot and maintain data connections from DCS/SCADA systems to business, instrument, analyzer and other subsystem/peer system networks,
    • Knowledge of Package Systems function, interface methods and specification development and skills necessary to configure host networking parameters and network devices for system interconnection and ability to troubleshoot networked systems,
    • Knowledge of Industrial Control Systems Environment (ICSE) security design, implementation and on-going management, and
    • Skilled in understanding and interfacing with all types of control and monitoring systems associated with machinery and with fired equipment.
  • Experience in international projects, multi-national company (MNC), Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise (WOFE) or JV is an advantage.

  • Willingness for 1-2 year’s short-term relocation, if required.
