  • Will you still be under a student status (enrolled at a recognized university at the time of the internship)?
  • Will you be under the insurance of your university?
  • We do need to make an agreement between you, the university and MSF (Universities should be able to provide this, as it is a standard convention)
  • This internship with MSF is unpaid, no remuneration will be provided.
  • MSF does take charge of your local transportation cost (Bus, train, tram, metro) and you can benefit from the onsite canteen for lunch

2.    Proposed internship topic

Mentoring & Coaching ProgramYou will be part of the People Development Hub, based in the Operational Centre Brussels (OCB), which is the staff unit for organizational learning and training support. We are looking for an intern that can support the Mentoring and Coaching program manager in his daily and strategic tasks. The mentoring program is offered to first time managers in the field (both national and international staff) who want to become more confident and performant in their role. They choose to be accompanied by a senior colleague in their journey. Through a self-discovery approach, mentees find their own solutions to the job-related dilemmas faced in the field. Mentors and coaches  are selected and trained by MSF. Coaching is offered to staff members who want to be supported related to a career development or broader performance Improvement on a certain skillset not related to a specific assignment.

 

The intern will be asked to:

–          Receive new mentoring requests for mentoring (co-manage the email box with the program manager)

–          Keep the database up-to-date. Overview ongoing relationships and keep contact to participants

–          Conduct induction talks with new mentees

–          Discuss with the program manager which mentors are available and could be proposed to new mentees

–          Organize and assist the OCB mentoring and coaching skills workshops (mostly digital)

–          Reflect and support on potential impact parameters to measure how mentoring and coaching has been incorporated in the organization’s culture

–          Participate in team meetings of the People Development Hub and Mentoring and Coaching Hub (based in Oslo) to discuss ongoing projects and strategies, share ideas and stay informed about ongoing initiatives.

–          Brainstorm with and assist the program manager and other stakeholders on improvements, ideas and initiatives regarding the program’s

o   Connection with other learning initiatives: How mentoring and coaching can be further embedded in the organization.

o   Build and implement a wide communication and cooperation campaign for mentoring and coaching to reach more staff in the field and in the international offices.

o   Additional tasks linked to the People Development Hub might be proposed and developed.

3.    Requirements

Ø  Interest in People Development, educational sciences (more broadly: social sciences), management of people and its theory and practice;Ø  Knowledge of mentoring and coaching is an added value

Ø  French and English fluent in speaking and writing

Ø  Good communication skills: both writing and speaking

Ø  Strong IT capacities with MS package + other tools used (smartsheet, salesforce – data management tools, community of practice platforms).

Ø  Ability to work autonomously, ask for support when needed and provide regular feedback to the internship mentor;

Ø  Understand, support and implement agility in management (collective intelligence, work in circles, horizontal relationship with Program Manager and others)

Ø  Ability to understand the organization quickly

Ø  Subscribe to the MSF charter and behavioral commitments

Ø  Flexibility in terms of work load. Additional tasks might be requested to support colleagues in our department

4.    Internship Mentor – application details

The internship mentor will ensure that the intern is sufficiently informed, briefed and supervised during his/her internship. Key aspects of this mentoring relationship are:–          Mutual Agreement at the start: How will we have a good relationship? What do we want to achieve? What are we both looking for? What is the atmosphere we wish to create? What to do when things do not go as agreed/expected?

–          Mutual feedback: Provide regular feedback on our objectives, priorities, work methods and relationship.

–          Support in terms of specific tasks, providing the framework and provide a mutual beneficial experience.

A selection procedure will take place. Only short-listed candidates will be informed and invited for an interview. Internship duration should be a minimum of 4 months (full time), or longer (part time can be discussed).
