Project Overview and Role:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Information managers lead on the administration and organisation of systems for compiling, collating, analysing, presenting systematic, quantitative and qualitative data, to include reporting by DFID Implementing partners. They engage with staff across Whitehall and with DFIDs implementing partners.  

 

Responsibilities

Humanitarian Analysis and Advice

  •  Act as focal point for sourcing information, working closely with humanitarian advisers and programming teams in HQ or in country; 
  • Provide technical advice to implementing partners as appropriate, ensuring indicators and results reported are standardised and fit for aggregation;
  • Provide guidance on information management issues and trends as well as their implications for DFID humanitarian response policy and programmes;
  •  Engage with implementing partners to ensure the delivery of accurate and current information, analysing its quality and pressing for improvements where needed.

Quality Assurance and Monitoring

  • Collect, disseminate and analyse data, including information from relevant cluster partners, UN agencies and other organisations;
  • Conduct relevant evidence based research, following up with needs and gap identification based on data collected; 
  •  Create and/or maintain a humanitarian knowledge database, aimed at producing updates on humanitarian situations and responses, highlighting trends, risks and likely developments including implications for DFID policy and programmes.

    Representation and Relationship Management

  • Maintain good working relationships with relevant DFID departments including humanitarian policy team, press and digital communications team etc; 
  •  Liaise closely with implementing partners including multilateral agencies, nongovernmental organisations, civil society organisations, and private sector; 
  • Liaise with national and local government representatives, UK government bodies such as Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), Ministry of Defence (MoD), other departments as applicable, and any other relevant actors in the context; 
  • Participate in and support international coordination mechanisms as required; 
  • Relationship development and ongoing liaison with relevant cluster partners, UN agencies and other organisations in order to establish key information networks.

    DFID Business Support

  • Provide support to the policy and programming teams by offering technical inputs into the implementation of research projects; 
  •  Provide input to a range of products including, information notes, cross Whitehall information products, parliamentary questions and DFID corporate documentation;
  •  Produce additional information products such as data collection tools, annotated maps, dashboards, infographics and PowerPoint slides as required.

Required Qualifications:

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Ideally a Masters level qualification (or equivalent) in a related subject;
  • Experience of working in humanitarian information management, ideally in both a head office and field environment;
  • Field based experience in rapid onset disaster/complex emergency settings working with UN, Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, INGOs and/or donors;
  • Experience working under harsh, unstable and highly pressurised conditions in developing countries and/or in fragile and conflict affected environments;
  • Experience of working with challenging, evolving and sometimes incomplete datasets;
  • Experience of managing or coordinating projects in the humanitarian sector;
  • Knowledge of humanitarian theory, practice and architecture;
  • Strong experience developing and critiquing partner log frames and progress reports;
  • Familiarity with response toolkit information products, project cycle management, partner reporting, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English;
  • Advanced computer literacy; proficiency in windows office suite, Access and mapping/GIS skills software (e.g. Tableau)
  • Advanced information management and reporting skills
