Org. Setting and Reporting

The Ethics Office is seeking a Communications, Education, and Outreach intern to join the Ethics Office to promote a culture of ethics and accountability within UNRWA and support the activities on the prevention of sexual misconduct (including sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and sexual harassment). This internship is in the Ethics Office, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in HQ Amman. The duration is for three months with a possible extension of maximum eleven months, depending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of Chief Ethics Office and in coordination with other Ethics Office staff members.

Background and purpose of the assignment:

One of the core areas of the Ethics Office’s mandate is Communications, Education and Outreach., Communications, Education and Outreach in various forms is an ongoing responsibility of the Ethics Office.

The Ethics Office intern will be tasked with supporting the implementation and roll-out of the 2023 Communications, Education and Outreach work plan, created in support of the Ethics Office Strategy (2023-2025) and vision.

An important part of the 2023 workplan is updating and improving the Ethics Office’s internal (Intranet/SharePoint) and external pages (website).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the internship position encompass the following aspects of Ethics Office’s work.

These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Assist in implementing and delivering on the 2023 Ethics Office Communications, Education and Outreach work plan.
• Support maintaining and improving the Ethics Office’s presence on UNRWA’s internal and external webpages.
• Creating awareness raising, communication and education materials in various forms (written and visual, including but not limited to reports, power point presentations, communications materials for different types of activities/meetings, short videos, etc.), on a variety of topics (including but not limited to ethics, standards of conduct, PSEA) and for a variety of audience.
• Assist in ensuring the effective design and delivery of communications products so to convey the desired message to the targeted audience.
• Support in the initiation and effectuation of improvements to materials already created and developed by the Ethics Office.
• Be able to provide assistance in the technical oversight on third party companies in support of planned activities, as required.
• Provide debriefing and hand-over notes to Chief of Ethics at the end of the internship.
• Perform other duties as appropriate.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the UNRWA Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1)Bachelor’s Degree in communications, organizational design, human resources, ethics and compliance, political science, other social sciences or relevant fields.

2) Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

Desirable Qualifications:
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in ethical issues and law or related fields;
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in visual communications design/production and in creating awareness-raising and outreach materials;
• Have a demonstrated ability to use Design tools and software, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
• Have a demonstrated experience in data and analytics;
• Have a demonstrated ability to work productively and independently, yet collaboratively, within the Ethics Office, respecting associated deadlines;
• Have excellent drafting, translation and communication skills.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and Arabic are the working languages of UNRWA. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
