Purpose of Position
The Director of Resource Mobilisation & Stakeholder Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing resource mobilisation and fundraising strategies for the country office in order to meet all annual programme income requirements as well as manage relationships with all stakeholders and partners that provide resources used in programme implementation. The Director of Resource Mobilisation & Stakeholder Engagement will be part of the Senior Management Team (SMT).
Key Performance Indicators
Development & Implementation of a Country Resource Mobilisation & Stakeholder engagement Strategy (60%)
- Lead the development of a country resource mobilisation strategy to ensure that the country office’s annual funding income requirements are met or exceeded.
- Set Annual, quarterly, and monthly funding targets that are aligned to the country office’s funding requirements and obtain approval from the Country Director.
- Conduct donor mapping aligned with the country office programme priorities and lead on donor engagement.
- Establish and develop a funding pipeline and actively convert such a pipeline into signed funded projects.
- Engage all current donors and funders to deepen and widen the scope and quantum of their funding levels and increase funding income streams of the country office.
- Identify, nurture, develop and maintain relationships with corporates, foundations, multilateral & development agencies, International NGOs, Churches, schools, high net-worth individuals and any other entities for the purpose of raising funding income in line with approved resource mobilisation strategy.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan that identifies the key stakeholders that provide the resources used in the implementation of all country programmes and seek to build long term relationships with such stakeholders.
- Develop and implement a communication strategy designed to ensure that the targeted stakeholders are kept abreast of developments within ForAfrika programmes, priority areas, key sectoral issues.
- Prepare and submit high level pitches, concept notes and proposals to potential donors and funders in collaboration with the Programmes team.
- Coordinating the submission of project progress and close out reports to funders/donors with the programmes team in line with donor/funder requirements and/or contractual agreements.
- Provide monthly and quarterly updates to the Country Director and SMT on the status of the country office funding and resource mobilisation position (targets, challenges, risks etc.) across all donor categories.
Marketing and Brand management (20%)
- Develop and implement a marketing and brand management plan for the country office.
- Ensure the design and development of all marketing materials, branding materials, and or publishing of relevant articles, thought-leadership articles where relevant.
- Develop and implement a social media engagement plan via all the relevant social media platforms, and monitor their usage/traffic.
- Host and/or attend events that bring potential and current donors together and generate interest in the work of ForAfrika and or its other country offices.
Staff Management mentorship & development (20%)
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the Resource Mobilisation & Stakeholder Engagement department.
- Directly supervise the Resource Mobilisation Specialist, Marketing, Communications & Proposal Writer as well as the Graphic Designer and any other staff member that may be assigned or hired in the department.
- Develop annual KPIs for all direct reports and conduct regular performance reviews as per HR policy and address performance issues in line with policy.
- Incorporate staff development strategies and oversee completion of development plans by key staff.
- Teamwork and assistance with all fundraising activities to attain maximum results and competencies. Shared knowledge and skills.
Qualifications and competencies
- Minimum of 6 years demonstrated working experience in Resource mobilisation/fund raising, marketing or business development in the development sector in in SA and/or Africa at senior level.
- Demonstrated experience working with and fund-raising within the Corporate Social Investment space in SA or the African region.
- A Masters degree or equivalent in a relevant field (Marketing, Business Administration, Economics, International development or other related fields)
- Proven experience in proposal development from concept note to full proposal and experience in other innovative strategies of resource mobilization with a proven record in raising substantial research/development and sponsorship funds.
- Leadership capabilities that includes coaching staff to high level of performance and engaging in effective cross-cultural and cross-functional working to achieve shared goals and effective indirect line management;
- Good interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to train others, harness cross-functional contributions from colleagues in other locations, being able to effectively employ face-to-face, telephone, Skype, email and other electronic communication with internal and external colleagues;
- Excellent presentation and communication skills, experienced networker with ability to develop strategic partnerships with C-suite level corporate executives, international donor representatives and government authorities at various levels;
- Capacity and willingness to travel nationally and be extremely flexible and accommodating in dealing with busy executives.
