Program Background :
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster.
IRC has been working in Ethiopia since 1999 and is implementing coordinated, community-managed programs sought at improving the quality of lives and recover of livelihood of disaster-affected population’s through promoting individual participation, strengthening institutions and emergency response
Under the supervision of the Community Wellbeing Initiative senior and Field Manager, the GBV Assistant will supervise the response and prevention of GBV. She/he will train and supervise refugee social workers and community workers to respond and ensure effective of GBV activities in camps. This includes providing ongoing training and mentorship for social workers and utilizing monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure high quality services. As survivors of gender-based violence tend to have multiple needs, the GBV will continuously attend coordination with partners from the protection, health, legal, and psychosocial sectors committed to reducing the incidence of violence against women. The GBV Assistant will also establish and maintain networks with community leaders, women leaders, service providers and camp management to ensure that women and girls receive compassionate support from the community.
Position Overview :
The Business skill assistant will work with the IRC’s Community Wellbeing Initiative (CWI) team in Jijiga at refugee camps and will be responsible for implementing a coordinated entrepreneurship education program for refugee women and adolescent girls living in temporary settlements outside of Jijiga. She/he will deliver curriculum-based sessions and will be responsible for supervising and evaluating the progress of the trainees throughout the training as well as at the end of the training session. She/he will review trainees’ business plans and support the transparent provision of seed assistance as appropriate to the parameters of the livelihoods program.
Responsibilities :
Specific responsibilities include :
- Develop lesson plans and training materials based on the existing curriculum and contextualize and adapt the business and life skills curriculum to meet the trainees’ specific needs ;
- Deliveran curriculum-based training sessions for displaced women and adolescent girls, covering topics in basic business concepts and skills, financial literacy, and life skills ;
- Respond to requests for additional training or facilitation from the trainees and/or from senior CWI staff ;
- Work with the senior CWI staff to adapt the curriculum for the needs of
- displaced women and adolescent girls ;
- Conduct a post training assessment upon the completion ;
- Conduct follow-up meetings with graduates and provide technical support to trainees as they set up small businesses and follow-up and mentoring visits to graduates who have started small business ;
- Prioritize special learning through inviting guest speakers who can encourage and empower the trainees and special events for trainees to display their talents, business ideas, traditional handicrafts, etc. ;
- Prepare monthly progress reports and provide analysis and recommendations on the training offered ;
- Ensure and follow up the procurement of program inputs for accurate implementation of training program ;
- Prepare and submit successes story as well as challenges and lesson learned.
Profil :
Education, Experience, and Skills :
- BA in business studies, social sciences, gender and development, youth development, or a related field Or related field. With 2 years of meaningful work experience for diploma holders ;
- Supporting business skills, vocational skills, and/or life skills trainings ;
- Proven experience in facilitation and community mobilization skills ;
- Project report writing skills ;
- Proficient spoken and written English and Somali ;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills ;
- Computer literate, with strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power point.

Expected Deliverables :
- Develop lesson plans, training materials based on the existing curriculum and contextualize ;
- Deliver curriculum-based training sessions for refugee women by covering topics on basic business concepts, skills, financial literacy and life skills ;
- Support CWI officer based in camps during main event like 16days activities.
