The CASS has 6 main operational goals in the DRC :
- Conduct rapid studies to better understand the dynamics of epidemics (including their impacts) and to explain differential trends in outbreaks and public health emergencies ;
- Provide near-real-time data to inform decision-making in response to epidemics (strategies and interventions for response actors) ;
- Use integrated analytics to demonstrate the GBV public health emergency in the DRC ;
- Support response actors to use evidence through presentations and co-development of actions and the documentation of agreed actions to track the use of evidence in decision-making over time ;
- Create a space for Integrated, Multidisciplinary Outbreak Analytics (IMOA): bringing together different actors and data sources to a more comprehensive understanding of outbreak dynamics and public health outcomes ;
- Train national research counterparts and build partnerships with national institutions and actors to better know and use integrated analytics in outbreak and public health response.
Outside the DRC, the CASS aims to :
- Provide technical guidance, facilitate information, tools and documents sharing to and across different partners, country teams and groups for better quality studies, better use of results and to influence and improve public health outcome ;
- Provide rapid field support to country teams in setting up and using social sciences in outbreaks (including coordinating with epidemiologists and health data analysts as well as other research groups/ results) ;
- Strengthen local responses and capacities by rapidly providing enhanced information, evidence, continuous remote mentoring support and resource sharing with local governments, responders, community media and other local actors working across the spectrum of health, development and humanitarian programming.
Ensure knowledge management and data sharing :
- Develop reports on the use of evidence for action ;
- Develop and write briefing notes which cumulate and present recurrent results and actions based on evidence ;
- Contribute to existing Social Sciences online drive ;
- Ensure all data tools, analysis, presentations and reports are provided online.

Recruitment Qualifications :
Education : A graduate degree with SOCIAL SCIENCES RESEARCH experience is required: public health, epidemiology, anthropology or another relevant technical field.
Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement social sciences research in health is an asset.
Experience :
- Humanitarian: At least 2 years social sciences research experience, working in humanitarian and development context (with UN-Govt-INGO) is required ;
- Experience working in public health emergencies is required. Specific experience is using evidence to inform outbreak and humanitarian response is required ;
- Experience working in health research in humanitarian or development programmes is required.
Language Requirements : Fluency in French and English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
Technical requirements :
- Qualitative research skills (formative or action research) ;
- Experience in conducting public health research (development/humanitarian setting) ;
- Experience and knowledge in qualitative research methodology and understanding of quantitative and epidemiological research ;
- Humanitarian programming ;
- Public health emergency response ;
- Training and development of training tools ;
- Report writing Experience in evaluation and report writing ;
- Human rights and humanitarian programming.
