Digital engagement plays an important role in UNICEF’s response to global and national shifts in the fields of communication, fundraising, advocacy, and development. The use of digital media platforms helps position UNICEF in Albania as a knowledge leader, expands outreach, and broadens engagement around children’s rights.                                                      

 

How can you make a difference?

The UNICEF office in Albania is hiring a digital Communication Consultant who will be responsible for coordinating UNICEF in Albania’s presence on digital platforms (website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube). Under the guidance and supervision of the Communication Officer, the consultant should design, manage, maintain, implement, and continuously improve UNICEF’s digital plan and digital media communication in order to maximize its online presence, and engage followers in a dynamic, interactive and meaningful way.   

The main tasks and responsibilities for the job are mentioned herein below:

1. Engage on Content planning (25 %)

  • Create monthly content schedules and production plans for the social media platforms with specific themes based on the programmatic needs ;
  • Conduct quarterly strategic reviews using the agreed digital key performance indicators (KPI) and web/social media analytics tools ;
  • Review on regular basis social media accounts of the UNICEF partners and donors to ensure visibility needs for the office ;
  • Work with the Communication to ensure guidance and standards of UNICEF are met.

2. Content production/dissemination (55 %)

  • The consultant shall work with Communication Officer and Program specialists team to support and prepare all content needed for social media channels. Content should include a visual element, when relevant. This can range from elaborate infographics, photos with superimposed texts, to simple photos posted together with the written content. UNICEF has a comprehensive library of high-quality photography that can be used for this purpose. UNICEF Communication Officer will share social media platforms to see examples.
  • Optimize content posting schedules across all the social media platforms based on existing knowledge of digital consumption behavior (using Hootsuite, or other similar tools) as well as analytics results of UNICEF fan/follower base and past performances.
  • In close consultation with the Communication Officer, the consultant should support social media community engagement including, taking appropriate actions or provide responses to content that is posted by users to UNICEF social media platforms (i.e. ignore, delete, acknowledge, emergency).

3Monitoring and Analytics (25%)

  • Maintain monthly Work in Progress reports.
  • Monitor and measure digital key performance indicators as set out by UNICEF office.
  • Conduct quarterly performance reports, which will feed into the quarterly strategic reviews

 

The consultant will be responsible for the following work deliverables:

– Social media content planning calendar prepared and implemented periodically

– Social media content created, and social media channels moderated.

– Specific social media campaigns coordinated.

 

Content production

Deliverable 1: Content on social media updated as needed

(programmes, publications, events, etc.)

Deliverable 2: Daily updates on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram with visual elements

The consultant will report on a monthly basis to the Communication Officer. The report will be prepared in English and shall include clear information about the activities performed and and results achieved against the initially planned deliverables.

Timeline: All content plans should be finalized ahead of time, where feasible, of scheduled posting dates. Where this is not possible, plans should be finalized as early as possible ahead of scheduled posting

The consultant will work remotely four half days a week for a period of seven months from June 2021 to mid January 2021. The person maybe required to travel within the country. The exact date for starting and ending the contract will be negotiated upon months of June 2021-January 2022 with eventual travels within the country. The consultant may be required to come to the UNICEF offices upon request of the supervisor.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

  • A University degree in media or communication or comparable academic qualification; a combination of relevant academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the university degree.
  • High quality, professional individual consultant with at least five years of relevant experience in development and execution of creative and innovative digital content and campaigns for different audiences across a range of web and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of HTML / XHTML, CSS, web standards and experience in analyzing social media campaigns, audiences and content using latest monitoring and analytics tools.
  • Experience with digital asset management tools.
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and/or Adobe Lightroom.
  • Experience with basic audio and video editing (e.g. Adobe Premiere, Moviemaker, Final Cut Pro) a plus.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent Albanian and English writing, editing, including experience writing for social media.
  • Familiarity with child rights humanitarian issues.
  • Proven familiarity and experience working with the UN (ideally with UNICEF) is preferred.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
