BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change. Around 20,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote areas, directly serving the hungry poor.
ShareTheMeal is WFP’s fundraising and awareness-raising app. Free to download, the award-winning app is a pioneering way for people to join our efforts in creating a world with zero hunger. ShareTheMeal was launched in 2015 as the first pilot of WFP’s Innovation Accelerator, which supports start-ups and innovators in developing their ideas for zero hunger.
ShareTheMeal currently has more than 4 million users worldwide, who have shared more than 98 million meals (over US$ 48 million). WFP is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy for individual giving, and ShareTheMeal is a key driver for this strategy going forward. The team, located in Berlin, is focused on further developing the app to include new and innovative features, and on increasing the engagement of existing users and growing the user base through marketing and communication initiatives.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Consultant, reporting to the Head of Marketing of ShareTheMeal, is expected to:
- Define OKRs for brand marketing and develop an annual marketing campaign plan, with the Head of Marketing
- Prepare and execute global marketing campaigns and support ongoing campaigns
- Devise campaign purpose, structure media plan and key deliverables
- Coordinate relationships with agencies (briefing, feedback, etc.) and other stakeholders to amplify results of marketing campaigns
- Work closely with Copywriter & Content Editor and Design to create effective assets for campaigns
- Take on budget ownership for marketing campaigns
- Research campaign-related best-practices by relevant players in the non-profit and mobile ecosystem
- Evaluate impact of campaigns
- Coordinate the development of a brand book for the ShareTheMeal initiative
- Work with Content and Design and other stakeholders to deliver a brand book for the ShareTheMeal initiative of WFP which works for all functions (UX, Marketing, Content)
- Liaise with relevant internal teams to ensure brand book is in line with overall WFP branding guidance
- Develop strategy for social media influencer and community management
- Prepare briefings for creative content development for marketing campaigns, different media channels including digital ads, TV, etc.
- Build relationships with production houses to create pro-bono content
- Turn data into ideas, test creative concepts
- Benchmarking and reviewing artwork performance metrics, analyzing winning trends, and determining a path for better creatives
- Lead a small team of at least one junior marketing consultant
- Prepare regular updates, evaluation and learnings on marketing activities
- Support other activities as required
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
- Key campaigns are prepared and executed in a timely manner and to high quality standards
- Impact of the campaigns is measured and documented; the reports are handed over to the Head of Marketing
- Brand book materials are prepared and finalised in line with WFP standards
- Contributions to content and marketing activations in German
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: |
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree is preferred |
Experience: |
At least 3 years of relevant national or international experience in Marketing, Brand management or Communications, work experience with non-profit brand management is a strong advantage. |
Knowledge & Skills: |
- Strong understanding of aesthetics in social media, product, web design and online marketing
- Strong analytical abilities, both quantitative and qualitative; ability to produce high-quality written materials
- Mature judgment with strong interpersonal skills
- Collaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures and to act with credibility and diplomacy
- Strong time and project management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles, and an ability to juggle competing priorities successfully, and to work to tight deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy
- Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the World Food Programme

High proficiency in written and spoken English and German required, knowledge of other UN languages is a plus |
