Cadre organisationnel
The post is located in the Implementation Support Section III (ISS III), Terrorism Prevention Branch (TPB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA). The incumbent will work under the guidance and direct supervision of the Chief of Section.

Responsabilités
Within assigned authority, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
•Assist in the provision of technical assistance with respect to regional and national terrorism prevention activities;
•Assist in conceptualizing, planning, organizing and implementing counter terrorism activities, mainly focused on the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf region, in particular workshops on the implementation of the universal counter-terrorism legal instruments, and capacity building activities on specialized thematic areas, as well as other relevant initiatives in the legal and criminal justice aspects of counter-terrorism;
•Contribute to the development of concept notes and funding proposals for donors interested in the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf region or on specific counter-terrorism related areas;
•Contribute to the preparation of implementation reports to donors, technical briefings; background and briefing notes, speeches, and other relevant working documents;
•Contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment processes for activities conducted mainly in North Africa, Middle East and the Gulf;
•Prepare technical presentations on the counter-terrorism activities of UNODC; carry out presentations, as required;
•Assist in the preparation of, and participate in technical assistance missions to Member States, as needed;
•Contribute to ensuring that the work programme and the activities of the Branch are carried out in coordination with other entities and UNODC and in liaison with relevant organizations of the United Nations system and as well as with other international organizations and Member States; arrange to obtain and integrate required substantive inputs from these stakeholders;
•Contribute to the overall substantive implementation of the work programme of the Branch;
•Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Formation
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international law or criminal law, political science or international relations, is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination/United Nations National competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
Expérience professionnelle
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in programming work related to terrorism prevention, organized crime, rule of law or closely related issues, is required.
Working experience in a field setting is highly desirable.
Experience in developing and implementing communications, monitoring and evaluation tools and frameworks is desirable.
Working experience with the UN or other similar international organizations is desirable.
Connaissances linguistiques
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

• Staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply.Submitting an application or selection for the current temporary job opening does not delay or increase the mandatory age of separation.
