Project summary

Shobai Miley Shikhi (Everyone Learns Together) Activity is a 5-year program funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project started in May 2022 and will run through April 2027. The Activity will focus on supporting the Government of Bangladesh in achieving the goal of full enrollment and quality education for all its children, including those with disabilities. The program will strengthen the Government’s existing education reforms while introducing innovations to enhance inclusive school environments and instruction; increase parents’, caregivers’, and communities’ ability to support inclusive education; and strengthen the Government’s capacity to plan, deliver, and manage quality inclusive education. The objective of  the project is improving learning outcomes for children with disabilities in government primary schools in Bangladesh, especially among girls and children in marginalized, hard-to-reach areas.

Position Profile

USAID Shobai Miley Shikhi project is looking for a qualified and driven teacher training and mentoring specialist. With a focus on strengthening inclusive educational practices, the position will be responsible for overseeing the school based UDL focused project interventions. All school and community based interventions will be implemented through school community facilitators (SCFs). The teacher training and mentoring specialist will work closely with the SCFs to oversee their work and build their capacity to ensure that educators are implementing UDL strategies and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners in line with the Special Education Needs and Disability Framework and contribute to the Government of Bangladesh’s 4th Primary Education Development Program

The position reports to the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP and works closely with the Department of Primary Education specialists, inclusive education advisor and RTI Home Office experts.

The Teacher Training and Mentoring Specialist will play a pivotal role in supporting and guiding educational professionals to enhance their teaching skills, develop effective instructional strategies, and foster a positive learning environment in the classroom.

Responsibilities

·         Oversee and ensure the technical quality of the IR1 school based interventions, which include- UDL kits, light touch digital resources, TLC meetings, and joint classroom observations between local ed officials and the SCFs.

·         The School Community Facilitators (SCFs) will implement school and community based interventions on the ground. The Teacher Training and Mentorship Specialist will work closely with the SCFs to build their capacity to deliver and follow up on the school based interventions.

·         The Teacher Training and Mentorship Specialist will periodically travel to the field to check in on the work of the SCFs and the implementation of the IR1 school based interventions. These trips will help the Teacher Training and Mentorship Specialist to determine areas for improvement and capacity building with the SCFs.

·         Design, develop, implement, and manage inclusive education trainings for national and district-level education officials on inclusive education practices, such as teaching strategies for students with disabilities, inclusion of all children in classroom activities, and positive behavior management. Assist in developing effective teaching techniques, classroom management skills, and strategies to address diverse student needs.

·         Plan and facilitate professional development workshops, seminars, and training sessions for staff and educators where applicable. Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement relevant and engaging learning opportunities.

·         Data analysis: Coordinate with MERLA team to analyze student achievement data, assessment results, and other relevant educational metrics to identify areas for improvement for learning and adaptation of program activities. Utilize data-driven insights to guide instructional decision-making and support educators in implementing evidence-based practices.

·         Collaboration and communication: Foster a collaborative culture by promoting effective communication and teamwork among educators.

·         Research and stay updated: Stay abreast of the latest trends, research, Ed Tech and inclusive education and apply this knowledge to the development programs. Continuously update your knowledge and skills to provide educators with up-to-date strategies and resources.

·         Represent the Program in meetings, workshops, and conferences, as requested by the DCOP and Project senior management and produce knowledge products as requested.

·         Perform any other duties assigned by DCOP.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education and Experience

·         A bachelor’s degree plus 8 years or a master’s degree plus 6 years’ experience in the training manual development, teacher training specialty on inclusive education, or related field of experience.

·         Previous experience as a teacher or educational leader.
