Union Internationale pour la Conservation de la Nature (UICN) recrute un(e) Chargé(e) de communication, Belgique.

 

 

Responsibilities

Under direct supervision of the Senior Manager, Policy and Programme and in close collaboration with other staff of the Policy and Programme team and the IUCN European Regional Office, the Communications Officer will coordinate communications activities of the EURO Brussels office and support the implementation of policy work and nature conservation-related projects in all EU territories. This will include providing support to key areas of work of the office including policy and programme. The Communications Officer will ensure the proper use of the IUCN brand and coherence with IUCN’s global communications standards throughout its work.

Specific duties

Lead the implementation of communications activities in relevant projects, especially related to EU policy and conservation issues in all its territories;
• Develop content for and manage EURO’s website and social accounts;
• Produce web stories, articles and summaries and supporting the development of publications for IUCN and external channels;
• Assist in the preparation of IUCN positions on EU policy;
• Develop and maintain contacts with regional media with a view to promoting IUCN policy and knowledge in Europe, working in collaboration with the Global Communications Unit;
• Ensure the monitoring and tracking of key media and EU policy developments and provide regular updates to the Policy and Programme team;
• Manage communications and external activities input to the EU policy calendar;
• Ensure and prepare IUCN’s presence at main conferences and meetings, including the organization of events and exhibitions and support to IUCN events in the EU;
• Liaise with the IUCN Global Communications Unit and regional communications staff and provide regular updates on EURO’s communications work;
• Provide quality control of all communication products and give guidance and advice to colleagues on style and format of communication outputs;
• Support programme teams in the preparation of project proposals with a focus on communications outcomes;
• Provide support on a range of tasks as delegated by his/her Line Manager.

The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. However, in an organisation such as IUCN, staff members are expected to show flexibility in their approach to work and be willing to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. Where any task becomes a regular part of an employee’s responsibilities, the job description will be changed in consultation with the employee and relevant colleagues.

REQUIREMENTS
• A minimum of five years of professional experience in communications and public relations jobs, preferably with EU policy component;
• MSc degree in communications, public relations or environmental policy;
• Familiarity with European nature conservation policy, as well as with EU funding processes;
• Experience in reactive and proactive media relations in the EU context;
• Excellent command of English with strong writing and editing skills; good level of other IUCN and European languages is an asset;
• Ability to present complex information in a clear and effective manner to different target audiences;
• Strong research and analytical skills, detail- and outcome-oriented;
• Sound understanding of information technology, with experience in applying Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as a minimum skill set;
• Ability to work on multiple task; organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills;
• Ability to work within a team and independently;
• Ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of outputs;
• Highly motivated to learn and develop new skills, keen to bring in own ideas;
• Ability to travel occasionally;
• EU National or holder of an EU work permit.
