Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
We are looking for an Investment Analyst to support the development of and investment activities of an impact investing fund in LatAm, which provides debt financing to SME businesses in the Amazon areas of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, with a focus on land-use activities that promote forest protection, sustainable use and restoration. The Fund will be led by The Palladium Group, an international impact-driven advisory and management company and Bamboo Capital Partners, an impact investing platform. The position will be based in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo) and reports to the Fund Manager that is based in Brazil.
As part of his/her responsibilities, the Investment Analyst will be required to:
- Screen and appraise investment opportunities to create pipeline of potential investment opportunities under the guidance and in close coordination with the Fund Manager and, where relevant, working with colleagues at Palladium;
- Participate in screening and Due Diligence activities for potential investments. This includes performing in-depth analysis of identified companies and projects (financial, business, strategic, and, in coordination with Palladium, related environmental and socio-economic impacts), coordination of field visits, follow up work;
- Work as part of a small team to review and develop investment decisions based on detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis. Contribute to the preparation of written investment recommendations for the Fund’s Risk and Investment Committees;
- Engage in post-approval/pre-disbursement activities. Including preparation of pre-disbursement documents, KYC/AML analysis;
- Proactively work with the Fund Manager and Management team in supporting fundraising activities: preparation of marketing material, management of data room, and regular updating of the fund presentations;
- Actively contribute to the follow-up and steer/contribute to the activities of monitoring investments until repayments/exits;
- Actively contribute to the valuation and audit process of investments;
- Build and maintain strong and productive relationships with clients, co-investors and partners;
- Participate and contribute to the respective internal meetings and engage in related activities.
- Share knowledge and actively expand your knowledge through “on-the-job” learning activities;
- Follow internal procedures and policies;
- Provide pro-active and educated feed-back to the team (downstream and upstream).
Required Qualifications:
- Previous knowledge and working experience with SMEs in Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador. Field experience in the Amazon areas of selected countries is a plus;
- Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to help implement the strategy of the fund;
- University degree in economics, finance, or business administration;
- Strong interest in nature conservation and restoration, climate change and social development;
- Relevant work experience (incl. relevant internships,) in private equity or private debt, and/or investment banking. Experience in the forestry area is a plus;
- Strong Excel modelling skills for equity valuation and debt financing;
- Understanding and interest in the land-use sector and its socio-economic and environmental implication (including large and small scale agriculture, livestock, forest conservation, management, agroforestry and others) a plus;
- Fluent Portuguese, Spanish and English (written and spoken);
- Initiative, proactive and result-oriented approach to work; independent and well-organized;
- Strategic and analytical mindset;
- Team player with an international mindset and intercultural skills;
- Willingness to travel internationally in Latin America on a regular basis.
