Background 

The Generation Equality Forum took place in Mexico and in Paris and launched a 5-year action journey to achieve irreversible progress towards gender equality, founded on a series of concrete, ambitious and transformative actions, including $40 Billion in financial commitments.

With the launch of the Nala Council on July 1st, 2021, at the Generation Equality Forum in Paris, Nala Feminist Collective is embarking into the advocacy phase to support the implementation of the Action Coalitions commitments at national levels, as well as amplify and bring closer the youth of the continent to the 5-year journey provided by the commitments of the Action Coalitions.

In this regard, NalaFem, with the support of New Venture Fund is looking for strategic youth-led organisations and collectives to host Intergenerational Dialogues in the six African countries in the Action Coalitions leadership, namely:

  • Malawi – Feminist Movements and Leadership ;
  • Burkina Faso – Bodily Autonomy and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights ;
  • Rwanda – Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality ;
  • Kenya – Gender-Based Violence ;
  • South Africa – Economic Justice and Rights ;
  • Tunisia – Technology and Innovation for Gender Equality.

Objectives

The objectives of the Intergenerational Dialogues are F.E.M – Foster, Enable and Mobilize Africa Young Women towards the achievements of the Action Coalitions commitments, guided by the Africa Young Women Beijing+25 Manifesto.

Specifically, the objectives of the Intergenerational Dialogues are: 

  • FOSTER Intergenerational Co-Leadership to bridge the generational gap with greater inclusion of young women in decision making ;
  • ENABLE young women capacities and expertise to bridge policy and implementation ;
  • MOBILIZE for youth-led accountability on the Action Coalitions commitments and Manifesto 10 demands to bridge intergovernmental and grassroots spaces.

The intergenerational dialogues are expected to achieve 

  • Youth Engagement 

Raise awareness about the Action Coalitions commitments highlighting the demands and opportunities and engage the large youth constituency at national level to take ownership of the process and lead accountability 

  • Stakeholder Engagement 

Build a platform from global conversation to national engagement by bringing together Action Coalitions African member states, civil society and youth. 

  • Media Engagement 

Amplify youth voices on local and regional media  

  • Report / Declaration 

The outcome document from the dialogue with a clear roadmap

Grants

Each country is allocated a grant of 1000$, which will support one or more youth-led organizations collaboration in hosting the Intergenerational Dialogue.

NalaFem Secretariat will provide strategic support to the selected youth organizations.

Selection Criteria

Eligible youth organisations and collectives should: 

  • Be a group of youth / youth-led organisation (s) between 18-35 years old ;
  • Work in the six identified member states, namely Malawi, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa and Tunisia  ;
  • Have engaged in the Generation Equality Process the past two years ;
  • Able to organise a multi-stakeholder engagement to drive youth-led accountability ;
  • Signed/Endorsed Africa Young Women Beijing+25 Manifesto and understood the 10 demands.

The selection of the organizations is vetted by the Nala Council, composing the review committee for this project.

Interested youth organisations and collectives are invited to submit their application through the application form on the next section.
