Purpose of the role:

The Bank for International Settlements, BIS’s mission is to support central banks’ pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international partnership, and to act as a bank for central banks. The Back Office team plays a key role in this supporting this mission by working in close collaboration with the different units of the Banking department, support initiatives and help designing special banking operations.

We are looking for a Customer Support Officer to join the Banking back office team in our Representative Office for Asia and the Pacific, based in Hong Kong. The successful candidate will focus on trade checking and validation, trade confirmation matching, as well as the monitoring of settlements and cash balances.

Principal accountabilities:

As a member of the Back office you will have the ability to cover a variety of tasks. These include:

  • Investigate and resolve confirmation mismatches and settlement failures together with front office, Nostro agents, custodians and customers.
  • Ensure timeliness of settlements according to different markets’ deadlines.
  • Ensure timeliness of reconciliations according to internal procedures.
  • To maintain the best standards and efficiency in Settlements and Confirmations and associated controlling processes.
  • Perform adjusting entries and write offs.
  • To ensure conformity with the rules set by Compliance or Audit.
  • Keep abreast of development in standards and settlements in financial markets.
  • Participation in projects and production of reports.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Good knowledge of Banking instruments, market practice and new initiatives in the Banking industry.
  • Minimum of two years of preferably in Banking operations.
  • Good organisational skills and customer-focused.
  • Ability to cope with pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Swift messaging formats.
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg information systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and promptly.
  • Proficiency in English required.
