OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Translation/Interpretation Services Unit (TIS) is mainly responsible for translating, revising and editing health-related information and documents from English into Arabic and French. TIS occasionally provides translation from Arabic and French into English under the guidance and general direction of TIS Manager.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Within the framework of the delegated authority, the incumbent is assigned all or part of the following duties which are performed according to the needs and agenda:

  1. Translate, edit, and proofread Arabic and English texts ensuring accuracy, clarity and uniformity of terminology.
  2. Review and revise Arabic and English texts translated by NO-B, short-term translators and interns ensuring accuracy, clarity and uniformity of terminology.
  3. Translate, revise, edit, proofread and rewrite documents and publications of the Regional Committee, technical papers and publication materials in the Office.
  4. Upon request, revise outsourced publications.
  5. Assign and follow up outsourced contracts for translation publication.
  6. Translate into Arabic, edit, proofread RD’s addresses and speeches.
  7. Translate into Arabic, edit, proofread abstracts of papers to be published in HQ and EMRO journals.
  8. Translate into Arabic, edit, proofread the contents of HQ and EMRO web-sites.
  9. Establish and maintain standards for Arabic publications and terminology
  10. Provide required advice and guidance to NO-B translators, short-term linguists, interns and external collaborators.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential

University degree in translation or languages.

Experience

Essential

At least 5 years of experience in language services (translation/revision/editing).

Desirable

Working knowledge in UN agencies is an asset.

Skills

Ability to use standalone/network-based Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT)

applications/tools.- Excellent knowledge of editorial and terminology work and in production

aspects of technical papers and books.- Ability to work under pressure.- Familiarity with health related; Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.

REMUNERATION

Remuneration comprises an annual base salary starting at EGP 788,033 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
