Innovations for Poverty Action, an international non-profit, seeks a qualified applicant for the position of Legal Counsel. The successful candidate may work remotely in Connecticut, Washington DC, or New York or in the Washington, DC office on a hybrid schedule. The position offers an opportunity to provide strategic and task oriented legal support to IPA’s global operations. Legal Counsel will primarily provide advice and support in contract reviews and negotiations. In addition, Legal counsel will provide support and advice in areas concerning the legal and technical sufficiency of IPA’s operational process and infrastructure, making recommendations intended to promote effective and efficient utilization of IPA’s human and organizational resources and to facilitate enhanced regulatory compliance standards.
Compensation:
IPA’s compensation structure is designed based on the labor market for the specific geographic location where the employee is located. We are offering the following salary ranges for this position:
– Legal Counsel is classified as “C3” on IPA’s global job structure;
– For US based employees the starting annual gross salary is $77,598 with a maximum of $90,000;
– The salary for locations outside of the US will vary depending on IPA’s salary scale ranges for that specific location.
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location.
Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate and interpret contracts, grants, subawards, vendor agreements, leases, and other legal agreements;
- Liaise with IPA’s global network of outside counsel to ensure adequate legal support of the organization’s country programs and operations. Support the General Counsel in ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, company policies and awarding agencies; requirements in the U.S. and overseas, as needed;
- In conjunction with the General Counsel and other legal counsel, provide advice and counsel on applicable data privacy laws, US Government Contract and Grant regulations, employment laws, among others, as needed;
- Support the General Counsel in the implementation of the organization’s compliance awareness program and conducting internal investigations, as needed;
- Support the legal registration of new country offices overseas and global legal compliance of IPA’s registered offices, as needed;
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on a wide variety of areas of law;
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- J.D. Required;
- Admission to the Connecticut, New York or Washington DC bar;
- Highly analytical and detail-oriented;
- Excellent oral and written communications skills required, including ability to write/speak logically and convincingly in a short time frame;
- Ability to multi-task, and work in a rapidly-changing, high-energy environment;
- Teamwork-oriented, with the ability to mentor and train others across an organization, and to prioritize work and support broader goals and objectives in the team and the organization at large;
- A self-starter with a strong work ethic, good judgment, and a sense of humor;
- Experience in USAID Rules and Regulations, Employment Law, Data Privacy Laws (domestic or international), contract drafting and negotiations a plus.
