Job Summary:

CARE is hiring a Press Officer for its growing Media Team. We are looking for someone proactive, who understands how global and US news cycles operate, so we can continue to grow our voice, profile, and message-pull through. Reporting to the Director of Media Relations, the ideal candidate has a passion for humanitarian work and our mission to end hunger and poverty through a more gender inclusive world. They also have a background working in a fast-paced environment driven by global humanitarian crises, and experience working on a media team, preferably in a development context. While this position can be remote, preference will be given to candidates based out of New York City, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.

Responsibilities:

  1. Global Media Relations
    • Strong focus on pitching to media, including reporters and outlets that cover foreign affairs, humanitarian aid, advocacy, crisis, and global development. Staff, and contribute to interviews, briefings, etc. including ensuring press kits are prepared, available, and organized.
  2. US Media Relations
    • Collaborate closely with CARE’s internal teams to develop plans to promote CARE’s engagement with corporate partners, our US programing and thought leadership work.
  3. Editorial Support
    • Support the media team by drafting talking points, fact sheets, press releases, and other material to advance issue positioning, thought leadership, and media relations.
  4. Global Humanitarian Crisis and Response
    • Support the media team’s global crisis response/management, while exercising judgment and discretion in communicating about humanitarian emergencies with complex and sensitive issues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or similar field;
  • At least seven-eight years of experience in communications, journalism or public affairs;
  • Experience in at least one of these areas is necessary: working in nonprofit communications, reporting for a media outlet (traditional or online), pitching stories to major national media outlets, writing press releases.
