Reporting positions: Graphic Designer, Interns
Position Objective: The Senior Graphic Designer collaborates with other members of the Exhibition and Graphic Arts Department, consultants, internal and external stakeholders to design graphics and exhibits that motivate people to learn, care about, and take action to conserve wildlife and wild places.
General responsibilities:
- Design graphics and other interpretive elements to support project goals, programs and messages, and disperse story lines, exhibit themes and content aligned with the WCS mission and project interpretive goals ;
- Work closely with EGAD staff, external consultants, as well as internal and external stakeholders on project development and completion ;
- Contribute to the team developing brand strategies, corporate identity and distinct IDs of the Society’s programs ;
- Provide input and expertise to ongoing master planning and branding efforts ;
- Manage, monitor, and maintain brand and design standard manuals and procedure documents ;
- Implement brand strategies with production design ;
- Contribute to project schedules, budgets, and priorities for implementation and project reporting schedules ;
- Represent EGAD to other departments on all aspects of EGAD project implementation ;
- Nurture promising staff and help find, select, and monitor consultants on project implementation ;
- Participate in procurement and management of external designers and vendors ;
- Assist EGAD senior management on special projects ;
- Participate and support the technical infrastructure of office management and office equipment ;
- Represent the Society and its mission in a professional fora and at meetings of like- minded organizations ;
- Uphold WCS policies in all aspects of work.
Qualification Requirements
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated visual communication skills in the field of museum/zoo/aquarium exhibit design and graphic design with a professional degree plus 3 years of design production or management ;
- Strong graphic design expertise and ability ;
- Highly developed aesthetic and programming judgment ;
- Highly developed visual and verbal communication and organizational skills ;
- Ability to implement creative and production work on a team of talented people and work with others at all levels, adept multi-tasking “thinking outside the box” to creatively problem solve ;
- Knowledge of new communication media, computer software and hardware, and software programs germane to the graphic and environmental design industry ;
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and procedures for 2D and 3D interactives, and current awareness of directions in exhibit design ;
- Ability to understand and demonstrate how a story is achieved through visual tools ;
- Strong understanding of the principles inherent in attraction brand asset management ;
- Ability to undertake travel as required by the work of WCS at its sites or areas of interest ;
- Concern for wildlife and wild places ;
- Commitment to WCS mission and public service with high standards of personal leadership.
