Position Overview:
Senior Accountant, Contract Accounting is responsible for all aspects of direct project accounting, revenue, expense and burden, cost share, billing and invoicing. This position will be responsible for internal and external financial report preparation for direct projects.
Other responsibilities include support of program set up and maintenance of programs in the accounting system, to provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders, support audits and financial reviews. This position reports to Associate Director, Contract Accounting.
Major Responsibilities :
- Responsible for review of award contracts and budgets to complete setup and management of the award in the accounting system;
- Responsible for preparation and submission of all external and internal financial reports, including billings, invoices, funder reports, general ledger reconciliations and other related schedules and forms, analyzing to ensure that expenses have been charged properly;
- Responsible for analyzing financial position of projects monthly including cost, revenue, burden, billings, addressing, and notifying supervisor and program managers of any identified issues and resolving problems. Support of internal and external financial audits and reviews, including single audit;
- Preparation, calculation, entry, organization and storage of project bills and support documentation, adjusting entries and support documentation, and other transactions and reconciliations as necessary for financial management;
- Review and approve disbursement requests as needed. Posting and organization of adjusting entries from monthly financial information upload from regional offices;
- Responsible for preparation of internal reports to assist in reporting and reconciliation with governmental agencies and other funders as needed;
- Provide assistance and guidance as needed to program, regional and field staff. Support of special projects and other responsibilities in line with the position expectations;
- Be available to travel to support overseas Winrock offices in audits and/or other necessary activities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; eligible to sit for the CPA or CPA preferred
Experience: Minimum 6 years of accounting experience required, of which 3+ years in similar role(s) working with federally funded projects.
Computer /Technical skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with computer-based accounting software required, Deltek CostPoint experience preferred.
Communication Skills: Good speaking and writing skills
Language Skills: English, foreign language a plus
