About this position

The Integration and Trade Sector at the Inter-American Development Bank supports the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to implement innovative solutions for a more productive, open, and connected region with the world. Our projects and applied research contribute to the reduction of the three main costs of trade: Logistics, information and regulatory. Our areas of intervention are trade facilitation, export promotion and investment attraction, and supporting the negotiation and implementation of trade agreements. We also provide technical assistance to initiatives and regional integration blocks.

We are currently looking for a motivated, applied, and innovative individual to provide technical support to the Integration and Trade Sector (INT/TIN) in various activities as described below.

What you’ll do:

The consultant will perform, among others, the main following activities:

  • Coordinate and provide support on activities between INT and Brazilian governmental entities such as Ministry of Development Industry and Trade (MDIC), Ministry of Foreign Relations (MRE), Ministry of Planning (MP), Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA), APEX, SEBRAE, and others.
  • Coordinate and provide support on activities between INT and the Brazilian private sector, such as AMCHAM, CNI, FIESP, multinational companies, law firms, investment and commercial banks, academia, among others.
  • Support the organization and the participation of IDB’s senior management on the Brazil Investment Forum (BIF).
  • Support INTs team on the preparation of thematic analysis and related activities (e.g. workshops, brown bag lunches, dissemination events, etc) connected to trade and healthcare, trade and food security, ecommerce, trade in services, government procurement, among others.
  • Organize sub-national capacity building on investment attraction best practices in preparation for the BIF.
  • Spearhead a collaboration with the government of Singapore focused on trade policy experiences.
  • Support INT’s team on activities connected to Brazil such as ConnectAmericas and subnational projects (e.g. white label).
  • Provide technical support to advance the mainstreaming of gender into the INT’s operations.
  • Provide support on activities to promote internationalization of SMEs (with a special attention on SME’s led or owned by women).
  • Provide support on activities of the initiative Amazon marketplace, and to promote trade of sustainable products compatible with the forest.
  • Provide support on integration projects connected to Mercosur.

What you’ll need:

  • Education:Master’s degree in economics, law, international relations, or related fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience:At least 5 years of experience in the areas of trade and investment, trade, and gender and/or regional integration.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
