Anticipated Project(s) and Assignment Details:

The Global Education Program Operations Intern will contribute to various project teams and support a variety of operational backstopping opportunities:

  • Operational backstopping for USAID-funded LAC Regional Workforce Development (Advance) program: work in close collaboration with project team members, supporting with operational and administrative tasks during the project closeout period, learning about this important step of the program life cycle.
  • Operational backstopping for the Next Engineers program: work in close collaboration with project team members, supporting with operational and administrative tasks, and learn about supporting a corporate foundation-funded project.
  • Provide operational support to the Global Education department, including supporting procurement processes and Costpoint requisitions; issuing and modifying consultant agreements; payment requests; and working with the team for updates to the Connect site.
  • Financial Monitoring: run reports using FHI 360’s suite of financial tools; assist in monitoring on-going spending and updating pipelines.
  • First review of reports and invoices; assisting with monthly expenditure reporting, cost share and general USG compliance.
  • Work with GE’s Finance and Operations team to learn more about program, operational and finance support and tracking and monitoring tools.

The intern may contribute to various team or project activities under the direction of their supervisor in the following ways: 

  • Contribute to research or project activities as assigned by supervisor;
  • Conduct desk reviews, landscape analyses and/or secondary data analyses;
  • Organize and participate in team meetings and country calls (e.g., assisting with meeting preparation, meeting minutes, a post-meeting report);
  • Support business development efforts, including conducting background research on donors, programs, and strategies and developing summaries that highlight the department’s capabilities;
  • Contribute to project-related presentations, blogs, and/or reports;
  • Assist with project-related, business development or GE department operational and administrative tasks, as needed.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Currently enrolled in a business, economics, finance, public policy, international development or related degree program at a college or university in a related field of study or within one year of graduation date;
  • Demonstrated interest in related subject area through studies, work experience, and/or personal travel;
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas;
  • Strong writing and research skills;
  • Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner;
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English;
  • Spanish proficiency preferred.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Remote office environment;
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; ability to lift to 5 lbs.
