J-PAL recrute un Chercheur associé au Département d’économie – Université de Notre Dame , Etats-Unis.

Professor Taryn Dinkelman is hiring one full-time predoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Economics at the University of Notre Dame. The RA will join a cohort of three other predoctoral research associates who work in a team environment as part of the newly established Building Inclusive Growth (BIG) Lab at Notre Dame. The BIG Lab supports development economics faculty and aims to produce high quality research into the barriers to inclusive development in low-income countries.

The RA will report directly to Professor Dinkelman and work on research projects related to education, gender, and labour markets in Africa, and on modern energy use in rural economies. The RA will be involved in all aspects of the research process, including: data sourcing, fieldwork, data analysis, manuscript preparation, research team management, presentation of results, generation of replication materials, and dissemination of results to academic and policy audiences through workshops and conferences. The RA will also be able to participate in mentorship and skills development activities, and can take up to one course for credit per semester.

 The ideal candidate will have:

  • Education: completed a 4-year undergraduate degree (bachelors or foreign equivalent) in economics, statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, or related field, and want to pursue a PhD in Economics
  • Experience: a strong quantitative background reflected on transcripts and strong writing skills evidenced by a writing sample. Experience programming in Stata is a must; experience in R is useful. Working with GIS data is a plus.
  • Approach to work: independent problem-solving skills and an entrepreneurial spirit. The candidate should have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be highly organized and self-motivated, and able to learn quickly on-the-job.

Apply here with a letter of motivation (describe your interest in the position, your experience and comfort level with programming languages, any prior RA experience, and any independent research projects), an up-to-date CV, a short writing sample, and the names of at least two faculty who can provide references.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted in the first half of December to complete a short technical exercise and a remote interview.

This is a full-time, one-year position with the option of extending for a second year. Applicants must have work authorization for working in the USA. Start date around May 2023, with some flexibility.
