The intern will work in the Selection and Recruitment Section in the United Nations Police Division, Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO). The Police Division supports the implementation of policing and rule of law mandates of United Nations peace operations.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Duties for the Policy and Administration Intern may include, but are not limited to:
– Assist in the research, analysis, development, consultation and formulation of policy positions for the UN Police Adviser and his senior management team based on the Strategic Guidance Framework for International Police Peacekeeping (SGF);
– Support the administration of the UN police knowledge management system to help cohesion in effort and facilitate organizational learning in line with the DPKO DFS (Department of Peacekeeping Operations and Department of Field Support) Policy on Knowledge Sharing and Organizational Learning (Ref. 2015.13);
– Assist with the development and maintenance of UN police strategic planning tools, monitoring and evaluation instruments to facilitate the Police Division’s support to UN police field components in the effective implementation of mandated tasks;
– Support the preparation, coordination and follow up of UN police events.
– Perform other duties as necessary.

To qualify for consideration for an internship by the United Nations Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
2. Be computer literate in standard software applications including Microsoft Office suite (Excel and PowerPoint in particular); ¿ Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations. ¿ Have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Working knowledge of any other UN official language(s) is desirable.
