As the manager of our Digital Experience Design team you will be play a pivotal role in helping Virgin Australia differentiate through exceptional digital experiences. From championing advanced design thinking techniques to setting our world-class design standards, you will evangelise design throughout Digital and across our organisation. You harness the potential in our exceptional people by implementing strategies to uplift our design capability, fostering open collaboration, and implementing frameworks to guide our teams to digital experiences that we will become famous for.

 

About the role:

  • Defining, communicating and executing our design strategy, which sets the vision and prescribes the frameworks and action to execute
  • Collaborating with the Digital Product and Experience Managers to evolve our digital products to be more customer-centric and suited to ever-changing context and trends
  • Lead the prioritisation of the team’s work and provide guidance to design team regarding areas of focus
  • Evangelise design within Digital and the entire organisation, raising the profile of the craft and obtaining strategy buy-in
  • Build frameworks and processes which blend the science of design with the existing creative aspects.
  • Lead the team to meet deadlines and consistently deliver their very best work , meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Facilitate service blueprinting, linking experience to process and architecture
  • Ensure the team are applying relevant service and experience design techniques and are solving the right problems
  • Identify and apply advanced lean, design thinking and human centred design techniques to solve problems of varying complexity across guest and employee journeys
  • Commission and conduct qualitative and quantitative research, understanding statistical and numerical reasoning
  • Build an intimate understanding of our user journeys, and apply frameworks to prioritise and facilitate the solving of problems

 

About you:

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to influence and push a design agenda within a corporate environment
  • Growth mindset with a commitment to continuously improving
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a design, psychology or related field
  • More than 5 years’ experience leading a design function, preferably lean
  • More than 8 years’ experience in commercial design (e.g. ecommerce)
  • Proven experience in building and developing design talent
  • Proven experience driving change and advocating new ways of working
  • Mastery in  Sketch/XD or equivalent, Adobe Creative Suite and prototyping tools
  • Experience developing service blueprints
  • Deep understanding of the capabilities of HTML/CSS and modern front-end frameworks that relate to design (e.g. REACT)
  • Demonstrated experience in visual design, front-end development and interaction design
  • Demonstrated experience in experience design, including the identification and use of various techniques to achieve superior outcomes
