Job Description
The Shipping Economic Studies and Projects team aims at providing a better understanding of the oil shipping markets, on which we have a large presence, in terms of prices and fundamentals, finding ways to model/forecast their dynamics.
In a context of great autonomy, the team contributes interpretation, advisory and support to all global T&S trading desks and to senior management and helps them define trading strategies and/or take decisions.
The intern position will cover primarily short term markets and their relationship with medium term ones but will get exposure to the other commodities traded by T&S (including crude oil and petroleum products).
Activities:
Understand the driving forces of oil shipping and crude/products markets (refining & trade).
Track vessels movements on the international shipping market using the internal tracking platform with data from external shipbrokers and consultants, in-house algorithms and charterers.
Analyze market data (market prices, fundamentals) and crunching market data.
Develop clear views of market trends and ad-hoc market indicators / decision making tools.
Research and gather relevant real time information on oil on tanker/freight markets.
Provide real time market information contributing to elaboration of short-term strategies / better understanding of short-term evolution of shipping S&D for both physical and derivatives freight markets.
Provide reports and analysis to oil chartering team.
Build market intelligence tools/data base.
Support business development initiatives, product innovation.
Context and environment
The position is based in Geneva, on the trading floor, with regular contacts with Houston and Singapore based teams.
Candidate profile
- You are pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Economics or Shipping and looking for an end-of-studies internship
- Having basis knowledge of energy market (trading and shipping) is as plus.
- You have a high level of digital and analytical competences.
- The position requires autonomy, objectivity, innovation, to be resourceful and well organised.
- You should be able to explain complex issues and present them in a clear and neat manner.
- You are fluent in English.
- Given the restrictions on work permits, only applications from Swiss and EU students will be considered.
- Internship agreement requested.
