With over 850 indigenous languages, and one f the most ethnically diverse populations, widespread poverty and gender inequality make it hard for many children to realize their rights.  In Papua New Guinea (PNG), UNICEF’s works effectively both ‘upstream’ (with governments) and ‘downstream’ (at the grassroots level) to carry out its mission through a programme of cooperation jointly developed with the government guides our work in the country.

 

How can you make a difference?

Under the close supervision and guidance of the supervisor, the programme assistant supports the respective section (s) by carrying out a range of procedural, administrative, and operational tasks, to help develop, implement and monitor their country programme, ensuring timely and effective delivery that is consistent with UNICEF rules and regulations.   Some key tasks include: facilitating the processing of contracts for consultants, vendors and external partners that support the office in programme delivery; preparing and maintaining records pertaining to programme planning and development for C4D activities related to the COVID emergency; and supporting capacity development activities, meetings and conferences by making the logistical arrangements.

 

As a champion for every child you will have…

  • Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization ;
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative or clerical work experience is required ;
  • Fluency in English and the local working language of the duty station.

This position is classified as “temporary” which normally means no conversion to a long-term post is to be expected.
