COUNTRY CONTEXT
Although rich in natural resources, Guinea faces major socio-economic challenges. The poverty rate is alarming, and 21.8 percent of households are food insecure. Malnutrition remains high: 6.1 percent of children under 5 are affected by global acute malnutrition, 24.4 percent are stunted, and 12 percent are underweight.
Rural populations are particularly vulnerable to food insecurity. Among those affected by severe food insecurity, 71.1 percent practice subsistence farming. Smallholder farmers comprise the majority of the country’s poor, showing a correlation between poverty and food insecurity. Besides, they have poor access to seeds and fertilizers, services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to project reporting of the China partnerships portfolio, ensuring donor visibility and maintaining positive and fruitful engagement with the donor.
- Support senior management in the preparation of briefing notes, talking points, strategic agreements, joint strategies, and MoUs in order to promote the SDGs and especially SDG 2 Zero Hunger on the national, regional and global agenda and to reach advantageous outcomes for WFP.
- Participate in the development of new projects including drafting project concept notes and project proposals under the guidance of head of unit.
- Support engagement with potential donors to explore new funding, with a focus on the China government and the Chinese private sector.
- Proactively contribute to other existing partnerships activities, including partner profiling and outreach activities, with the aim to maximizing resources and leveraging policy and technical support for WFP’s work.
- Provide administrative support, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
Currently enrolled in a recognized university or graduate school or be a recent graduate (max. 6 months after graduation) in university degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications or other relevant field, or, has attended University courses in the last 12 months and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies.
Desirable Experience
- Has experience or demonstrated interest in international humanitarian development.
- Has experience in working on Partnerships. Experience in building partnerships with the Chinese government or Chinese private entities will be an asset.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Has developed strong narratives by using data analysis visualization to enable action-oriented discussions with partners.
- Has prepared briefs to raise resources for operations and collaborated for timely registration, maintenance and update of contributions and forecasts.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including substantive analysis and report writing skills.
- Has motivated team spirit and contributed to a gender-balanced, inclusive and sound working environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
WORKING LANGUAGES
Excellent written and spoken in English and Chinese is required (proficiency/level C).
Intermediate level in French would be an asset (Level B).
