Field Research Technician – ICRISAT Development Centre

ICRISAT seeks an applications from Indian nationals, for the position of ‘Field Research Technician – ICRISAT Development Centre’’ to support activities of Global Research Program on Resilient Farm and Food Systems (GRP-RF&FS). There is a requirement of 2 positions where the incumbents will be based in Central India and will report to Principal Investigator, Tahrauli, Jhansi, UP project. This position is intended to support research in farming system.

ICRISAT is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. Covering 6.5 million square kilometers of land in 55 countries, the semi- arid or dryland tropics has over 2 billion people and 644 million of these are the poorest of the poor. ICRISAT and its partners help empower these disadvantaged populations to overcome poverty, hunger and a degraded environment through better agricultural production systems.

Tropical dryland areas are usually seen as resource-poor and perennially beset by shocks such as drought, thereby trapping dryland communities in poverty and hunger and making them dependent on external aid. Responsibilities:

  • Support multi-disciplinary project team in executing a range of NRM interventions;
  • Experimental field data collection on soil, water, nutrient, agronomy and socio-economic parameters;
  • Undertake crop cutting experiments and sample processing;
  •  Experience in ways to retrieve hydrology data;
  • Experience in Soil moisture data collection using gravimetric measurement method.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in science or agricultural science or related disciplines;
  • Candidate should be willing to work with a multidisciplinary team;
  • Fluency in oral and writing skill in Hindi is preferred;
  • Willing to travel to out location project sites for undertaking research experiments and data collection.
