Active in around 40 countries, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement field projects which improve the daily lives of over 4 million children and members of their communities, in the domains of health, protection and emergency relief. This engagement is financed by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.
Context:
The Protection Coordinator is responsible for providing strategic direction and vision to the Tdh’s Child Protection programming taking into account the wider lense of protection (GBV & Livelihood mainly), in designing and developing frameworks, tools and providing capacity building to the staff in Iraq and is responsible for the overall quality of implementation of these elements.
You provide technical oversight and guidance on child Protection including, whenever relevant, GBV and livelihood component and provide guidance to the project staff to ensure that relevant activities are implemented according to standards and set quality benchmarks. You ensure that Tdh child protection principles and standards are being incorporated into the emergency programs. You conduct your duties in respect of the Charter of Terre des hommes and the Tdh Child Protection Policy.
You represent the organization and its interest in external forums, working groups and networks in their technical capacity. Engage in advocacy and communication processes as directed by the management. You play a leading role in fundraising and donor engagement with direct involvement in proposal development. You play a crucial role in the rollout, mainstreaming and adherence to the safeguarding policy within the delegation, in collaboration with other relevant departments.
Responsibilities:
Technical expertise: Projects Design, Planning and Implementation
- Lead context analysis and technical situational analysis that forms a basis Tdh programming in Iraq ;
- Lead the development of technical program designs, with clear implementation methodologies, tools and other required technical guidance for field rollout ;
- Provide technical leadership to the Child Protection in accordance with best practice and Tdh policyEnsure that all planned child protection activities are implemented on time, within the budget, according to quality standards and as per the monthly plan ;
- Support the CP managers, to follow quarterly, monthly and weekly activity plans to achieve expected results. This includes planning of activities, and procurement ;
- Identify needs and gaps in programming and proactively suggest activities to enhance the protection response ;
- Contribute to the development of country sector strategic direction and plans ;
- Work closely with various partners to ensure coordination and representation of Tdh ;
- Contribute to develop new proposals related to Child Protection sector.
Monitoring and Reporting :
- Ensure technical supervision of the CP and Education teams and conduct regular monitoring and evaluation activities ;
- On a regular basis, liaise with partners to identify gaps and challenges as well as to ensure quality impact of the CP and Education approach ;
- Work closely with M&E officer to ensure data are collected, adequate technical tools are in place and data is analysed and used to better report on activities and to ensure quality services for beneficiaries ;
- Draft monthly reports in addition to other reporting tasks as per donors and partners requirements.
Capacity building
- Identify training & coaching needs and develop a capacity building strategy ;
- Provide follow-up child protection and education training where required ;
- Advocacy and training (internal and external) on CPMS.
Coordination
- Coordinate with other humanitarian partners and local authorities in the target areas, as relevant for the effective and efficient implementation of the CP projects ;
- Attend Child Protection and Education Working Group meetings and clusters and promote Tdh work and expertise
Child Safeguarding Policy
- Commit to respect the Child Safeguarding Policy. Signs the Code of Conduct ;
- Report serious cases of abuse on children identified by the Child Protection and Education team to the Country representative. Strict confidentiality must be respected.
Others
- Undertake all other duties that may be determined by the Country representative and that are compatible with the job.
- Maintain and ensure a culture of strict confidentiality – inter Tdh staff and between Tdh staff and non Tdh employees.
Profile:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar senior position is preferred ;
- Previous experiences in the MENA region, especially Irak, would be a distinct advantage ;
- Education: Post graduate degree in Social Sciences, International Development, or Law is required ;
- Language: Excellent oral and writing skills in English, Arabic an asset ;
- Proven technical skills in the field of protection and specifically of Child Protection, and social care services, including the national and international legal framework, policies and best practices ;
- Prior experience working in similar positions including in humanitarian and volatile contexts ;
- Experience in GBV and protection in livelihood programming (Highly Desirable) ;
- Strong written and oral communication skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties ;
- Proven experience and skills in proposal development and donor’s approach.
Please be advised that living conditions in the field (volatile security context, basic living conditions, shared showers/toilets, curfew, restriction of movements, etc.) can be challenging and although Tdh does the necessary to ensure security and wellbeing of the staff, people used to a certain level of comfort might not feel at ease in the field.
Salary:
Expatriate contract under Swiss regulations 3’400 CHF (~2’950 €) < > 4’750 CHF (~4’100 €) net /month according to experience x 13 times, Vacancy: 25 days annual leaves local accommodation and transportation, Health insurance, accident and medical repatriation insurance, return flight.
Duration: 12 months
