The WFP Regional Bureau for Eastern and Central Africa (RBN) is based in Nairobi and provides strategic direction, technical guidance, resource mobilization and management support to WFP operations and activities in ten countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan , Sudan and Uganda.
Job purpose
In order to effectively advocate and communicate the results and impact of WFP’s work in the region, the RBN has identified the need for graphic design expertise. The Graphic Designer will support the bureau and country offices with templates and document layouts to maximize the impact of the information being communicated. In addition to print medium, the bureau is also looking to start using animations and mini clips/tutorials to improve communications, awareness and information sharing.
The candidate must have proficiency in Graphic design software’s such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, CoreIDraw, Premiere Pro, MS Office, Aftereffects, Audition and Flash, etc.
Standard minimum qualifications
Education: |
Degree or certification in Graphic Design or Visual Arts. |
Languages: |
Excellent command of English; French an asset. |
Experience: |
2 to 3 years’ proven experience of graphic production from concept and design to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management;
Working experience in development or humanitarian environment is desirable |
Desired experiences for entry into the role
- Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms.
- Advanced knowledgeof standard software packages, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud etc.
- Ability to edit documents and/or summarize content for various audiences.
- Knowledge of multimedia and animation production.
Key accountabilities 1/2(not all-inclusive)
- Design templates and formats for our strategic products to better communicate WFP work in the region using up to date and innovative design solutions.
- Deliver creative and innovative ideas for print, electronic, web-based and animated presentations in line with corporate branding guidelines.
- Maintain the Graphic Design standard operating procedure and revise as need; ensure teams within the RBN and CO are aware of how to request graphic design services.
- Liaise with RBN functional units and COs to advise on and strengthen visual presentations, ensuring alignment with corporate Graphic Design guidelines.Lead discussions in the development of standard and ad-hoc operational templates.
- Design reports and other materials for printing and digital distribution.
Key accountabilities 2/2
- Provide technical expertise to build on existing graphics and design elements with specific focus on external illustrative and formatting development.
- Produce animated graphics and animations.
- Work withthe communications team to improve the regional photo archive by ensuring that county offices contribute regularly to the photo archive.
- Maintain awareness of developments within the Graphic Design field, ensuring outputs use of latest techniques and designs.
Deliverables at the end of the contract
- All requests (infographics, reports, products, etc.) are produced in line with WFP’s branding guidance and delivered on time;
- Develop a series of common editable templates for regional and Country Office-level use which are easily accessible by users.
- All requests, deliverables and feedback are managed as per Standard Operating Procedure on an ongoing basis.
- Photo archive has at least a few dozen recent photos (last 4-6 months) per country representing various thematic areas of their Country Strategic Plan.
