Save the Children recruits a Shelter Technician – (200003OH) – Akkar

 

ROLE PURPOSE: Save the Children Lebanon is implementing a large and varied Shelter and WASH program to meet the needs of the refugees and host communities in Lebanon. The role is required in order to ensure technical quality of the Shelter and WASH programming at field-level. The Shelter Technician will be responsible for conducting technical assessments, technical monitoring and supervision and providing technical advice to beneficiaries and communities. The role holder will participate in emergency activities related to the covid-19 outbreak in North Lebanon.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Shelter Officer

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Programme Implementation:

  • -Conduct technical assessments of existing shelters and buildings
  • – Develop technical proposals and Bills Of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates including material, labour and transportation requirements for all shelter and WASH related works
  • – Prepare technical drawings, where required
  • – Support all technical aspects of quality control 
  • – Conduct regular visits to beneficiaries
  • – Attend and support distributions
  • – Provide daily/weekly reports, as requested.

Programme Monitoring:

  • – Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of activities by collecting appropriate data from selected beneficiaries, using pre-made questionnaires
  • – Conduct regular site visits to supervise and/or monitor progress and quality
  • – Conduct Post Distribution Monitoring
  • – Conduct awareness sessions on Save the Children’s Feedback Mechanism System, and encourage its use
  • – Contribute to data entry, as needed
  • – Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • – Degree in the engineering or similar fields, equivalent work experience is considered
  • – Minimum 1 year of experience in the construction sector
  • – Experience in field work and community mobilization
  • – Experience in conducting training and sensitization sessions for communities and beneficiaries
  • – Computer skills (especially Excel)
  • – Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • – Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours, and capability to work in insecure environment
  • – Available to travel in country
  • – Shelter and WASH programming in humanitarian context
  • – NGO experience
  • – Familiarity with refugee communities in country of operation
