DCA Mail Conflict Prevention & Peace Building Advisor (CPPB-A)

DCA seeks an advisor for our innovative Conflict Prevention & Peacebuilding projects in Mali. We are looking for an individual who has a proven track record in leading vibrant initiatives that support local capacities to support conflict sensitivity analysis, facilitate nonviolent communication / dialogue initiatives, engage in community action planning and other peace related initiatives. The contract period will be from 1 November 2021 – 31 December 2022, with the possibility for extension.

We offer a unique opportunity to spearhead DCA’s Conflict Prevention & Peacebuilding projects, as part of a dynamic DCA Mali Team. The CPPB Advisor will be involved in actively designing new interventions, support the development of peacebuilding training resources, lead peacebuilding workshops, securing funds, and implementing pioneering initiatives.

General Expectations

  • Work within the framework of DCA’s core values, promoting its ethos and mission statement;
  • Liaise with programmes/HQ to ensure effective communications across the organisation;
  • Ensure adherence to all DCA policies and procedures;
  • Lead or participate in meetings, networks, seminars, and conferences where relevant and beneficial to DCA and its mission and mandate;
  • Develop appropriate training material and use new resources to lead workshops;
  • The posting is an expatriate position and will be based in Bamako, with regular travel to Burkina Faso. Travel to remote areas of Mali and Burkina Faso is also expected to the extend security allows.

 

Key Tasks

  • Management of Conflict Prevention & Peacebuilding-related initiatives including partner engagement as well as supervision of associated staff;
  • Support donor-funded Conflict Prevention & Peacebuilding-related projects;
  • Provide peacebuilding advisory support and technical backstopping to triple Humanitarian-Development-Peacebuilding nexus initiatives;
  • Support donor reporting and provide regular project updates;
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to partners and DCA staff;
  • Participate in coordination meetings with the relevant groups (e.g. cluster meetings, working groups);
  • Conduct regular assessments at project locations or support remote assessments depending on security situations;
  • Provide relevant input to the Mali programme strategy and involvement in the overall grant management cycle.

We are looking for:

  • A relevant academic qualification, at Masters level or equivalent in peacebuilding, international relations, development studies, humanitarian action, sociology, project management or other relevant topics;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience at senior level, preferably in complex humanitarian environments;
  • Strong and proven experience developing peacebuilding training resources and delivering workshops;
  • Strong experience in Do No Harm/conflict sensitivity analysis, peacebuilding, social cohesion, and community action planning;
  • Strong and proven experience working with civil society and government authorities;
  • Strong experience / involvement in coordination;
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English;
  • Strong communications skills, both spoken and written;
  • The ability to mentor, coach and develop staff and partners;
  • Experience with fund raising, networking, donor liaison and coordination;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Strong ability to plan, coordinate and lead processes that include multiple stakeholders and interests;
  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability – experience from the region is an added advantage.

Salaire
