The IRC has been working in Uganda since 1998 supporting IDPs, refugees and various institutions in the country notably the government, community-based organizations, the civil society and the private sector. The current program portfolio in Uganda includes health and nutrition, economic recovery and development, protection, and prevention and response to gender-based violence (GBV). IRC has its country office in Kampala and regional offices in Yumbe, Arua, Moroto, Kitgum, Lamwo, Amudat, Kyegegwa and Isingiro districts. IRC is currently expanding to Kiryandongo in the health sector.
Overview/Summary :
The IRC has been working in Uganda since 1998 supporting IDPs, refugees and various institutions in the country notably the government, community based organizations, the civil society and the private sector. The IRC’s Protection and Rule of Law (PRoL) programme works to safeguard the human rights and wellbeing of refugees in Bidibidi and Kyaka II settlements, as well as urban refugees in Kampala. Components include protection monitoring, information dissemination, protection case management, promotion of social cohesion, psychosocial support and legal services – all incorporating a community based protection approach.
The COVID-19 pandemic underscores the urgency of systematically strengthening community-based structures and empowering local humanitarian leadership to increase access to critical information, ramp up protection support and enhance access to justice for diverse refugee and vulnerable communities taking into account gender, age, nationality, legal status, disability and other vulnerability factors.
Tasks & Deliverables :
IRC is looking for an expert in data visualization, data analytics and the design of infographics, factographics and maps for a range of products and materials for various audiences including refugees, local host communities, community-based organizations, local authorities and policymakers.
Key deliverables include :
- Submission of concept for infographics, including examples of graphs/charts/visuals and icon concepts such as justice, different services, sequence, youth, etc ;
- In consultation with the PRoL coordinator, a series of 20 infographics to capture various protection and access to justice issues ;
- Service point maps contextualized for different audiences ;
- Legal information factographics targeted for a range of legal needs ;
- Visual IEC materials in consultation with refugee leaders and youth leaders ;
- Infographics for fact sheets.
Payment Schedule :
The Individual Consultant will work over a 4-month contract period. The Consultant will be paid upon the completion of deliverables as per a detailed blueprint with specific tasks, deliverables and timelines.
Up to $100 (advance/reimbursement in line with IRC policy) :
- airtime / wifi ;
- transportation to/from meetings.

Standards of Professional Conduct :
The IRC and IRC workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in IRC Way – Standards for Professional Conduct. These are Integrity, Service, and Accountability. In accordance with these values, the IRC operates and enforces policies on Beneficiary Protection from Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, and Anti-Retaliation.

Profil :
- University degree in data analytics, data visualization, data science, graphic design, information design, or a related field ;
- Previous professional experience working with IGO, NGOs, etc on concept and creation of specific graphic design products, including infographics, data visualization, legal information fact sheets, service maps, etc. ;
- Proven track record translating data into information, education and policy-related products; portfolio of sample work products ;
- Demonstrable creativity and innovation to produce high quality products, and to adapt according to feedback quickly and efficiently ;
- Strong knowledge of the refugee humanitarian situation preferred ;
- Ability to work independently and remotely, as well as part of a team and meeting tight deadlines as required ;
- Excellent ability to interpret, analyze and synthesize information in a fast‐paced environment ;
- Excellent organizational skills, timeliness, ability to determine priorities and great attention to detail ;
- Expert knowledge in graphic design and graphic design software, including but not limited to: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After effect, Final Cut Pro, Flash, Flex Builder, and the rest of the Adobe Creative Suite.
