Job description

The governance cluster of the GIZ Country-Office in Palestine implements programmes that contribute to the vision of a democratic Palestinian state with a diverse and active civil society. „Strengthening Civil Society Organizations in the Palestinian Territories (CSP)“ is a GIZ programme that works closely with civil society partner organizations (CSOs) in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. The goal is to strengthen Palestinian civil society organizations to become strong governance actors, to be able to promote the rights and participation of Palestinian citizens, especially marginalized groups including women, girls, youth and persons with disabilities. In order to perform as strong governance actors, CSOs need to have strong governance structures themselves such as Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)-Systems, social impact assessment systems, strategy development capacities, digital capacities, inclusive, innovative approaches, and self-sustainability. CSP’s cross-cutting mandate is to leave no one behind.

Your tasks

As part of your service as a development worker, you will take on the following tasks:

  • Update existing organizational capacity assessment tools and conduct assessments of civil society partner organizations
  • In cooperation with the implementing civil society partners and project teams, develop comprehensive capacity development materials and processes for specific areas/topics identified- earlier in the organizational capacity assessment- as needed for capacity development of partners and tailor them to the local context of the partner organization
  • Organize trainings, ad-hoc advising, as well as, mentoring/coaching to staff of local partner organizations for specific areas/topics identified as needed for capacity development
  • Contribute to the development of performance monitoring systems and tools for partners; support them in developing annual workplans, how to write progress, monitoring and evaluation reports
  • Support technical and capacity development-related activities for civil society partners in diverse areas of organizational development and technical capacity development; ensure that implementing partners are using the capacity development and knowledge materials/tools/systems they gained properly, effectively, and efficiently
  • Support the technical team in partner organizations to ensure gender and Leave no one behind (LNOB) approaches, supporting them in mainstreaming these approaches into all activities and capacity development initiatives
  • Coach and train upon need, the CSP team and various civil society partner organizations in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip on organizational development measures and approaches
  • Contribute to enhancing the organizational development capacities of civil society partner organizations

Your profile

  • Master’s Degree in Organizational Development, Management, Business Administration or other relevant fields from an accredited academic university or institute
  • Many years of relevant work experience, with proven experience in the field of organizational development
  • Experience in addressing structural problems of organizational design, as well as, changes in the culture and social fabric of an organization
  • Understanding the human aspects of organizations including people, processes, and practices
  • Experience in supervising and coaching staff working with people from different backgrounds, as well as, in assessing staff’s needs for professional development in various fields of organizational and individual capacity development or related fields of work
  • Experience in gender and Leave No One Behind fields is required
  • Excellent communication and intercultural skills; Ability to work in a team, and to adjust work plan and priorities rapidly in response to urgent needs and external opportunities
  • Fluent German and English skills; Arabic language skills are an asset.
