Greenpeace International (GPI) is looking for an International Executive Director – to be an inspiring and visionary leader for Greenpeace and our 100 million supporters and grassroots allies who work throughout the world to sustain the planet and its people.

You will provide strategic leadership, foster a unified vision, and build the capacity of the Greenpeace global network to protect our planetary boundaries while confronting unjust power structures and challenging mindsets. You’ll also build collaboration with other organisations working towards a healthy, peaceful planet, acting as an ambassador for Greenpeace on the international stage.

In this role you will:

  • Provide vision and strategic leadership for the achievement of the global mission and objectives of the Greenpeace network.
  • Oversee the work of the SMT in guiding and ensuring: effective operations of GPI and the programmes; approaches to risk; central operational functions and systems; fundraising and engagement; impactful use of the Greenpeace fleet.
  • Act as an International Chief Spokesperson and Ambassador with world leaders and relevant international stakeholders.
  • Champion and inspire Greenpeace’s iconic campaigns, initiatives and programmes through empowering others.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of a strategy for a strong and cohesive Greenpeace network that maximises global effectiveness and impact.
  • Report directly to the Greenpeace International Board.
  • Assist with high level fundraising activities.

What we’re looking for:

  • Vision, passion and a deep personal commitment to social and environmental justice.
  • The ability to lead a complex organisation and international network, bringing different stakeholders on a journey of change.
  • A consultative yet decisive leadership approach, demonstrating courage and assertiveness as well as empathy and humility.
  • A positive attitude towards Digital Transformation, with the ability to champion our Technology Vision.
  • A strong understanding of intersectionality and decolonisation, in order to champion Greenpeace’s values and commitments to Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Safety.
  • A good grasp of different campaigning approaches, including non-violent direct action, and innovative methods of rallying support.
  • Fluency in English, preferably with good knowledge of other languages.
