The postholder will work closely with Dr. José Manuel Aburto and will join the Population Studies Group (PSG), in the Department of Population Health at LSHTM. The postholder’s primary role will be to strengthen research and teaching on formal demography or statistical demography (with open specialization, for example: mortality, fertility or migration) to better understand population dynamics in low and middle income countries. PSG is a vibrant hub of demographers as well as staff from a wide variety of other disciplines who work on demographic and related subjects.
The ideal applicant will have good quantitative background with qualifications and experience in mathematical demography, statistics, causal inference, or other relevant discipline with strong quantitative components. Evidence of interest and work in low and middle income countries are essential. Candidates should also have experience working with complex datasets, missing information, ideally related to demographic components. Candidates should also have strong programming skills. This full-time and fixed term post is available immediately (there is flexibility in the starting date) and funded for 48 months. The salary will be on the Academic scale, Grade 7 scale in the range £50,048- £ 57,013 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
